Madison Preston, Maddie, does not need a man in her life. She does her best to stay away from men, even though she is lonely. She has dreams and plans that she can accomplish on her own.

Jake Dutson is a ladies’ man. He’s never met a woman he wanted to spend more than one night with. Besides, he does not want to be tied down with a woman. He wants to buy his own ranch and needs to focus on his plans.

When Jake and Maddie meet, they are instantly at odds. They fight their attraction for each other while they work out their feelings. Maggie has an abusive past she must let go of, and Jake has to deal with his growing need to be with Maggie every day. As they spend more time together, a misunderstanding shakes their trust. They each have to look deep inside to go after what they want and face the future.

Cowboys and horses are favorites of mine, and this book had plenty of both. Ms. Thomas created a beautiful setting for this story. I could see hunky cowboy, Jake, and feisty Maddie on the ranch, working through their separate pasts and trying to move on with their lives. The only thing I did not enjoy was Maddie’s closure scene. Otherwise, this book pulled me in and was a great read.
