As New Year’s Day approaches, Samuel, a lonely linguistics lecturer, figures that life will just continue on as planned, simple and unassuming. But Mishima the cat ends up on his doorstep and refuses to leave; resulting in a completely unexpected chain of events.

This stray leads him straight to Gabriela, someone he thought would never see again. It also leads him to step out of his comfort zone and do things like speaking to his neighbor, making friends with complete strangers, and even trying to convince himself that he just might have a romantic chance with Gabriela.

Samuel’s life leads him on a strange journey, pushing him way out on a limb and into uncharted territory. He certainly has crossed paths with some unusual, yet extraordinary people. So just what does his future entail: Romance and friendship, or just more loneliness?

This definitely was a strange read. It was mildly entertaining with a chuckle or two but at the same time I was oddly disconnected from the story. I would not say it was a romance; it was more of a self- discovery journey. I would recommend that if dry humor is your forte you might enjoy this read, otherwise it might not be to your liking.
