So we have been talking about what sci-fi/futuristic books actually are. I actually looked up what the definitions of each was just to see if paranormal genres fit within this category. Not once did it state that sci-fi and paranormal are the same. However, it does state that sci-fi and supernatural are synonyms as well as paranormal and supernatural are synonyms. That is close enough for me. When I think of an author who breathes new life into this genre, I think of Keri Arthur. www.keriarthur.com I am a huge fan of the Riley Jensen Guardian Series. With these stories, even though it mainly revolves around one character, there is enough storyline within all these books to make them unique and fantastic. Of course, the fact that Riley is part werewolf and part vampire, something unheard of in her time, makes the tale all that more sensational. Here is just one of the reviews that was written by Maura, a fellow CTR Reviewer about The Darkest Kiss: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/BookReviews/Thedarkestkiss.html. If you have not picked up this series yet, I highly recommend you do, because Keri Arthur will blow you away with her sensual wording and wonderful imagination. Not to mention that the men in this series are so hot that I can just feel the heat from their touch burning through the pages.

15 years agoI always thought that “paranormal” was the catch-all phrase for anything that has any fantastic element to it. Deathship? Fantastic. Dragon? Fantastic. Time travel? Fantastic.
I went through and read all the RITA nominees in the paranormal category and really enjoyed MOONSTUCK by Susan Grant, which was just solid romance, and SEDUCING MR. DARCY by Gwen Cready, who really put an interesting spin on the time travel aspect. Because it wasn’t really time travel. It was fiction travel, lol.

15 years ago AUTHORHi Lucinda! I have to agree with you on that one. Paranormal broken down into its basic format actually means beyond the norm. For me that is enough of a guide to make paranormal part of this category. Then again, maybe I am just pushing to hard to have it included lol.

15 years ago AUTHORI forgot to add that I remember when you blogged about Seducing Mr. Darcy. I love the title of the book, it is so catchy!

15 years agoHiyas! I grew up loving and enjoying science fiction myself. Sci-fi was any fiction that had a scientific basis and offered and answered the question of what-if with a science backdrop.
On the other end of the spectrum was fantasy where you didn’t have to explain things with science, just magic. Paranormal and fantasy were synonymous to me since both used extraordinary instances without science but they all fit under the ‘speculative’ umbrella.
Thanks for listing these recs! I’ll have to check em out! 🙂

15 years ago AUTHORRae Lori, so glad you could stop by. The only problem I have with checking out these books, is like we chatted about earlier my tbr pile is already overloaded and I have just made it ten times worse lol.
