For me, home is the place I grew up…Amherst, Ohio. There is something special about that small town. At this time of year, I become even more homesick since moving away at the age of eighteen. I often go back to visit my family who still live in town but visiting and living there are two different things.
Amherst was crowned “The Sandstone Capital of the World” because of the many local sandstone pits that brought out over a million tons of stone over the years. Many of my family members worked for the Cleveland Quarries, the local sandstone business. I distinctly remember the sandstone ashtray that sat on the bedside table in my grandmother’s guest room. It was the perfect place to put jewelry or coins when you climbed into bed.
There is something enticing about a small town during the holidays. Maybe it is the festive decorations dotting the streetlights or the three-story plastic Santa Claus that stands sentinal over the lawn of my favorite restaurant. I love when the snow creates a winter wonderland as the aroma of baked goods filter out into the street from Keidrowski’s Bakery or watching the children with their faces pressed up against the old Ben Franklin’s window. The older homes become showcases once the lights go on and darkness settles about the town. It is so peaceful to drive through the town looking at all the lights while listening to Christmas music on the radio. The church bell still rings on the hour at the church on the corner of Church Street and people just seem friendlier.
I wanted to share my hometown with my readers. Amherst, Ohio has become a huge part of the Wilder Sisters series. Each book shares a little bit about the city and what it was like growing up in the town. Forever Love talks about the teen years at the local beach. Beach Desires shares some of the angst of high school, while A Christmas Accident shows how the community comes together for others. I encorage you to take a trip to Amherst in the latest Wilder Sisters series book.

About the Author:
Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn’t hoping for a career as a race car driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother and grandparents who were avid readers. She’d often sneak books away from them so that she could fantasize about those strong alpha males and plucky heroines. In middle school and high school, Melissa wrote sappy love poems and shared them with her friends. She still has those poems today! In college, her writing changed to sarcastic musings on life as well as poems with a modern twist on fairy tales and won awards for her writing. You can find many of these musings along with her latest releases on her website and blog.
As a writer, Melissa likes to keep current on topics of interest in the world of writing. She’s a member of the Romance Writers of America and EPIC. Melissa is always interested in improving her writing through classes and seminars. She also believes in helping other authors and features authors and their books on her blog.
Melissa doesn’t believe in down time. She’s always keeping busy. Melissa is a wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, an avid book fan, co-owner of a publishing company as well as an author. Her home blends two families and is a lot like the Brady Bunch, without Alice- a large grocery bill, tons of dirty dishes and a mound of laundry. She loves to write stories that feature “happy endings” and is often found plotting her next story.
