Waving very enthusiastically from Alamogordo! I am soooo happy to see you here with me today. Folks, Colleen is an avid reader and a really cool gal. I know she is shy so I did a short interview to make sure you learned a little more about her. Here are a few questions from that so you’ll learn a little more about Colleen! You probably already have TMI on me!! I am soooo gabby.
!. Colleen, you said you became a reader over time, not at an early age and that assigned school reading was mostly dull! I have to agree with that although I read a lot. from about age ten on. Can you recall what the first book was that you read and kind of thought “OH wow, so this is what books can be like!” Do you remember the author or even the title? Was it a romance?
Colleen: I had enjoyed a few fantasy books about dragons my mom had purchased for me when I was younger, but my love of books did not come about until years later. My grandmother wanted to go to a local Thrift store, so I took her. While there I saw a wall full of books. Not sure why it called to me, but when I walked over, I saw some beautifully colored covers. The first one that grabbed my attention was The Sherbrooke Bride by Catherine Coulter. It went home with me and after reading it I was caught. I read the next two in the series and my love of reading expanded from there.
- Do you have a favorite romance genre or subgenre that you like most to read?
CC: Choosing a fav genre within romance is hard for me. I go with what I am in the mood for at a certain time. I bounce back and forth between them. Love Romances of all types!
- Do you have a fave author–or maybe a few (I cknow I an’t limit my fave list to just one by any means) and if so who? Why?
CC: Wow, I have read so many authors… but I can admit I have some favs… maybe more than a few. 😉 Definitely Catherine Coulter, she is the author that grabbed my attention with both her Historicals and her Suspense. Nora Roberts/ JD Robb… for her wonderful characters and the way she makes her books come to life. Sandra Brown, Diana Palmer, Julie Miller, Laura Griffin, Vivian Arend, Denise Agnew, Brenda Novak, the wonderful AZGaye, to name some more, each have me coming back for more. Of course there are others!
- We’re talking romance today so to move beyond just literature what is your favorite “Chick flick” romantic movie or TV show? Do you have a special favorite love song? (I won’t ask why or who it brings to mind! That’s personal!!)
CC: A fav movie of mine is Ever After with Drew Barrymore. I love the fairytale feel to it, but also that she is a tough cookie. That movie always makes me smile!
Songs come and go for me, but I am a huge fan of Loreena McKinnett and Enya’s music! I can play their songs all day long… some of my favs are actually the sadder pieces.
5. Are you superstitiious? Imaginative? A dreamer or very practical and down to earth? Are any of these effected or related to your reading habits?
CC: I am not really superstitious, but I do have a necklace I made with this four leaf clover charm that I consider lucky. Imaginative, yes I am… was great at creating stories when I was a kid… never had the ability to get my thoughts to paper though. I consider myself a great balance between dreamer and down to Earth. As for influencing my reading, I guess it does… the dreamer in me is always looking for those HEAs… my imaginative side can take the authors’ words and bring those pictures to life in my head… bring the characters’ emotions out for me. I love stepping into the worlds and lives of so many characters created by so many talented people. A wonderful escape that brings happiness to my day!
AZG: I so totally agree with that last sentiment! Reading is a wonderful escape and relaxation. A good book has gotten me through a lot of hard times and I am an absolute HEA believer!! I really prefer to read over watching TV or cinema.
