Keep posting your first exposures to romance in the post below. I love reading everyone’s stories. But moving on…
Guilty Pleasures, come on, we all have them. What’s yours? Is it chocolate? Okay, if you are female and breathing that one is a given? Shoes or shopping in general?? What is it?
My guilty pleasure is watching period drama films. I love them! In fact, my sister comes over every Tuesday for a weekly dose of handsome, dashing men in cravats. The place that has really keyed me in on several period drama miniseries is YouTube. There is a real community of movie goers on there who love these types of films and they share their love through their videos. I can’t tell you how many great conversations I’ve had with these ladies and how many DVDs I’ve purchased due to their creative undertaking.
I often wonder why I love the Period Drama so much. I’m sure it stems from my love for classic literature, history and romance. And darn it those lovely British men in cravats are just too beguiling. I did mention the cravats, didn’t I?? 😉 I’d have to say my favorite “recent’ films in this genre would be Pride & Prejudice (2005), Persuasion (2007), North & South (2004) and Becoming Jane (2007). I could watch those ones over and over.
I just had to add a picture here of my favorite literary hero, Captain Wentworth, played here my the wonderful Rupert Penry Jones or as we refer to him over at YouTube””RPJ.
So, now I’ve shared. Let’s hear some of your guilty pleasures. And if you too enjoy the Period Drama, please tell what your favorites are. Okay time for a tea and biscotti break. My dh just bought me a huge box of chocolate biscotti the other day. Gotta love the man.

16 years ago AUTHORHello Krista! Oh, those are both good. I loved Miss Potter as well. It had an ending that was satisfying and real. Love S&S too. Have you seen the 2008 miniseries version. Very good!

16 years agoMy guilty pleasure is reading. I absolutly enjoy reading. If you asked my children what my hobbies are they would say reading and cooking. I don’t watch a lot of tv. If it is on, it is on a kids program. I always have a book with me. If I can’t find a book I like at the library I will buy one. I take them in the car, or have one in my purse. I have boxes and boxes of books in my closet and I get a little embarrased when I look at them. My sis and I share along with some friends but I no doubt have an over abundance of them. It is definatly a guilty pleasure for me.

16 years ago AUTHORHi Mary! Oh, yes reading!! Another one of mine. Definitely reading. Even with my busy schedule these days, I read at least before bed. My husband and I are huge book collectors. We have a small library set up upstairs and we need more room.

16 years agoHi Cindy,
I, too, must admit that his actor was FABULOUS as Captain Wentworth..*sigh*…he just…well… 😳
A guilty pleasure? I do feel guilty when I overeat, whether chocolate, or my favorite foods. Dear me, that’s not exactly what you meant, is it? 😉
Yes, I do enjoy these movies based on Jane’s books. I like the wholesomeness of them, when prioprity and depth of character was what mattered. I’d love to return to a society like that!

I am a certified Jane Junkie. I love all the books and all the films. I could sit and discuss them for hours. And dear Captain Wentworth is my favorite. 😳 (Sigh)

16 years ago AUTHORLOL Jennifer! Don’t tell, but Britney is great on the mp3 player when you are doing housework. 😉 I love musical theater and showtunes as well. I just saw Phantom last month at the theater here in Raleigh. Not the British ‘Phantom of the Opera’ (I have seen that one too) but the American version ‘Phantom’ It was very good. It gets more into the Phantom’s past and character. Makes you cry at the end.
