Did we all survive April Fool's Day with our dignity intact? I got conned bigtime by a good friend but that was okay–I can be a good sport. Anyway, get set for a busy day here on Book Brew as we delve into the topic of Crime and Punishment. After being married to a cop/former cop for a number of years and having a son who still follows a law-enforcement career, I am a huge fan of cop stories–but–I get a bit miffed when they do too much violence to reality and 'just the facts, ma'am' in the interest (?) of the plot. With a bit of research and care you can write a damn good mystery or police procedural without forty vehicle car chases clear across Texas or the astounding flashes of genius we often see on TV or in the flicks. But maybe that is just me.
We'll be open for business officially in about an hour (1200 EDT) and be hanging out here all day with a break or three for yours truly to allow the posterior to wake up from sitting too long. But I am going to go ahead and post my opening salvo here and maybe grab a few of the fave lists some of today's authors provided.
How is the weather where you are? After late spring temps (80s) most of the past two weeks, here in south central NM, I am feeling the lowest edge of a cold front and winter storm brushing by. A few clouds, a lot of wind with blowing dust, and temps down with a high in the 60s today. Yeah, not much to whine about, huh? Three years ago I had just arrived in Colorado for awhile and there was some snow…likely will be today as well so I am glad to be back in the high desert where snow is confined to the appropriate months (Dec, Jan, Feb mostly) and usually not much of it at a dose. Works for me LOL.
So let the fun begin–crime and punishment!! Be glad reading these great tales is not a crime and surely not a punishment!!
