Getting to Know You Blog-And a Contest!

First, introductions!

Let me start off by saying hello.  I’m Lisa Marie Wilkinson, and I write award-winning historical romance novels.  My first book, “Fire at Midnight” is being released by Medallion Press on March 1, and my second historical romance, “Stolen Promise,” will be released in March 2010.

I’ve been a writer for almost as long as I can remember, from writing bad poetry as a child to being a lyricist/music critic to writing very dry, boring technical material.  I’m an avid reader, too, and I enjoy many different genres, although I have to admit I’m partial to romance, particularly romances with bad-boy heroes and the women who tame them.

My debut novel, “Fire at Midnight” currently holds the highest number of contest wins in the Romance Writers of America world of chapter contests.  I am officially a tiara-wearing Diva.

I have a trailer for “Fire at Midnight.” Click on the link if you’d like to play it: Trailer for Fire at Midnight.

You may read excerpts from “Fire at Midnight” and advance reviewer comments on my website.

I also write book and film reviews on my blog, “The View from the Eddystone Light.”

Since I write romance, I thought a good ice-breaker for my first CTR blog might be to share a few of my favorite quotes about love and romance and ask you to either share your thoughts on the quotes or your own favorite quotes on the subject of love and romance.

Here we go!!

“Life is the flower for which love is the honey.”

-Victor Hugo

“Immature love says:  ‘I love you because I need you. ‘Mature love says ‘I need you because I love you.”

““Erich Fromm

“One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life:  That word is love.”

““Sophocles

“He who love touches walks not in darkness.”

““Plato

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

““Emily Bronte

“Love is”¦ born with the pleasure of looking at each other; it is fed with the necessity of seeing each other; it is concluded with the impossibility of separation!´

-Anonymous

“Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.”

““Charlie Brown

Your turn!  Please leave a comment!

I’ll select the most interesting comment of the day and the winner will receive an autographed copy of my debut novel, “Fire at Midnight.”

My favorite quote here is the one by Charlie Brown: “Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.” Is that wrong of me?
    Margay

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

Not at all! That’s one of my favorites, too. I love the light humor and the fact that it really says a great deal. My other favorite is the quote from Wuthering Heights, but that’s because I tend to be a bit of a drama queen.

    Thanks for commenting!!

    Lisa Marie

  • Catherine Kean

I love the Emily Bronte quote. The whole notion of soulmates is incredibly romantic to me. Congrats on your upcoming release, Lisa Marie! Best wishes, Catherine

  • Miss Mae

This is my favorite quote. The last line simply gives me shivers. 🙂

“There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not. The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.”

    Proverbs 30:19

Congratulations on your books, Lisa. I also write historical romance, though my latest release is a contemporary romantic suspense.

It’s nice to meet you. 🙂

  • Cheryl Norman

My favorite quote is from a song by the Rolling Stones (Mother’s Little Helper): What a drag it is getting old! 😆

Cheryl, who just had a significant birthday

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

    Cheryl,
I think everyone can relate to that quote! Happy (belated) Birthday!

I don’t mind birthdays…when you consider the alternative.

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

This is a little off-topic, but I just read this review of Fire at Midnight, and I was completely bowled over by it. If you have any interest in reading a review that will give you a great synopsis of the storyline of “Fire at Midnight,” please read the review entitled, “Fanning the Flames” on the Romance Roundtable website:

    http://www.romanceroundtable.com/

I knew a review was scheduled to be published today, but I didn’t have any idea of the content, and reviews always make me anxious. 😉

  • LuAnn Morgan

A baby is born with a need to be loved – and never outgrows it.
    Frank A. Clark
This quote is particularly important to me right now as I (impatiently) await the birth of my third grandchildren. His due date is March 4.
It’s not been an easy pregnancy for my son’s girlfriend. With all the nasty colds and viruses this winter, she’s had some rough times. But she’s determined and the baby is healthy. He’s also a real go-getter and I can’t wait to see him!

  • Gram

    😀 I love Charlie Brown…he just brings a smile to my face…

  • Kelly

Congrats on the great review. Good luck with the book. I know you’ll be a great success. I can’t wait to read it.

  • Julie Robinson

    Hi LIsa,

Saw your email notification and hopped on over. Congratulations on your upcoming release. 🙂

There are two love quotes I’ve always liked. When I was a teen, i had a poster with this saying on it, which is a take off from Proverbs:

If you love something, set it free. If it doesn’t come back to you, it wasn’t meant to be yours; if it does, then love it forever.

The other quote, which after 20 years of marriage I have found to be true, is:

Love is not two pair of eyes looking into each other; love is two pair of eyes looking in the same direction.

I’m not sure where it came from. I think it’s an old Chinese quote—but don’t quote me on that!

    Julie

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

    Miss Mae:
Great quote! And it’s so nice to meet you, too.

    Luann:
A very basic truth–that the need to be loved is inherent. I hope all goes well with the new grandbaby. March 4 is just around the corner and you’ll be holding that little bundle in your arms before you know it.

  • Quilt Lady

Hi Lisa, I love your quotes. This is one of my favorites of yours: Immature love says: ‘I love you because I need you. ‘Mature love says ‘I need you because I love you.’”

    –Erich Fromm

Here is one I ran into on a blog and I love it, but its not quite about romance!

Let books be your dining table,
And you shall be full of delights
    Let them be your mattress
And you shall sleep restful nights.
    ~Author Unknown

Congrats on your debut novel. I love a good historical so I am very interested in your new book. I love trying new authors and I have put you on my wish list! So bring on those historicals for us reader! I am looking forward to your book!

  • Darlene

Hi Lisa zapped over to visit, congrats on the book. I think my most inspiring thoughts come from the old Disney movie Polyanna, in it Polyanna talked with the town preacher, and he makes the statement if you look for the bad in people you will surely find it and changes his whole fire and brimstone sermons to the bibles “glad” passages. No matter how nasty or unpleasant a person was Polyanna always found something good about them, she changed an entire town into a happy place. I have tried to live my life this way.

An though not a love quote I do like to say this… Sometimes it’s fun to be the fly on the wall of friends; unless that friend is a frog… 😆

  • Joan K. Maze

Those comments says it all. True love outshines anything else and maybe even can redeem a person headed for disaster.

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

    Julie,

“Love is not two pair of eyes looking into each other; love is two pair of eyes looking in the same direction.”

I don’t recall ever having heard this one, but I like it! Thanks for sharing it.

  • Lillie A

I love the Erich Fromm quote. So true. And congrats on the great review!

  • Susan Kelley

I like Julie’s quote about the two pair of eyes. I love your book cover, Lisa. I’m sure lighthouses would not be really comfortable places to live with the wind and storms but there’s something so romantic about them. Good luck with your release.

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

    AND THE WINNER IS….
I want to first thank you all for participating! There would have been no discussion if you hadn’t been willing to give of your time and share your thoughts.

Since it’s my contest and I can decide to give away two books if I want, I’m going to declare two winners: LuAnn Morgan and Julie Robinson. If you lovely ladies would please send your snail mail address to me at lisamarie@lisamariewilkinson.com, I will send an autographed copy of “Fire at Midnight” to each of you. Thanks!

  • Stephenia

One of my favorite love quotes is: “Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the sky” -H. Jackson Brown JR….it also goes with “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, there is really someone beautiful out there for each of us.

  • Lisa Marie Wilkinson

    Julie and LuAnn-
I have your snail mail information (you ladies had entered my website contest so I have your snail mail address from your entry). I will have your autographed copies of “Fire at Midnight” in the mail to you asap!

  • Linda Nightingale

My favorite quote is from Oscar Wilde: The world was my oyster but I used the wrong fork.

Added your books to my TBR list!

  • Julie Robinson

Woohoo ,Lisa! Thank you! so much!!! ❗
I can’t wait to read Fire at Midnight, and I am so glad I will have an autographed copy of it.
I’m going to have to keep the cover picture facing outward because it is so beautiful.
    😛
    Julie

  • Julie Robinson

And thank you Coffee Time Romance for having Lisa on your site.
    Julie

  • Julie Robinson

    Thank you Lisa Marie ❗

I got Fire at Midnight in the mail.
The cover is even more beautiful than it looked on the computer.
Thanks for the personalized autograph. 😀

Interview with Celia Breslin
We are thrilled to have author Celia Breslin with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to give readers a chance to get to know more about you and your work. While some questions may be traditional, you’d be surprised at what readers connect to. Sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can. So, let us begin.

Can you share a little something about Celia Breslin that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?

Sure! I play piano, and I like to sing. Used to be a soprano, but now I’m more of an alto. I also like to work out every day. Weight training, cardio, walking, etc.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid. Mostly short stories back then. After college, I moved on to novella and novel-length work. I still do write the occasional short story, including The Night Hag, a dark modern fairy tale I wrote for Halloween 2023 (free to my newsletter subscribers).

What have you found most challenging about it?

I have more story ideas than I have time, LOL.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

Writing is definitely fun and fulfilling. I do get emotional about my stories, especially when I’m throwing all sorts of problems at my main characters. But then I get to cheer them on when they overcome the obstacles and achieve their HEA.

Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule, or do you have to be in the mood?

I try to write regardless of my mood. I like to stay connected to my WiP, so daily writing is a must.  I’m also an editor, so my typical workday includes both activities. Oh, and my daily workout!

Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?

It started as a hobby when I was a kid/teen. Fast forward to adulthood…when my daughter was born, I thought, why not publish my stories? So, I started submitting my vampire series to publishers, and it was picked up. Writing has been one my job hats ever since.

Let's move on and give readers some insight into your personal life.

What are your pet peeves?  Being late, drivers...

Perfect Tomorrows by Autumn Jordon

Shay Morgan falls asleep every night and wakes every morning to the same thoughts.

Adam died. He wasn’t coming home, again. And she had no choice but to go through the rest of her life alone.

For Shay Morgan, the last two years has been exhausting. Life has been a game of hiding the heartache endured by losing the only man she’d ever loved. And she’s been successful. To the folks of Black Moose, Vermont, she appears a strong woman who continues to enjoy life through her work as a construction company owner and her many community activities. In reality, she simply has been keeping her pain at bay. However, with the death of a beloved friend and the return of a spiteful businessman to town, her good-natured, thin veneer cracks and she finds herself drowning in grief once again.

A chance encounter with a handsome stranger— who sneaks past her defenses and infuses joy back into her life— teaches Shay that love is never replaced by another, and in order to truly live a full, rich life, she needs to let go of her past. But can she trust him?

With a little meddling from the good folks of Black Moose, Shay and Ethan both might just get a lifetime of perfect tomorrows.

Perfect Tomorrows is a heartwarming journey about loss, friendship, and a second chance at love. Shay and Ethan’s story highlights that grief is universal, the healing process is unique for everyone, and peace and joy are always within reach.

The Treason of Robyn Hood, a dieselpunk adventure by D. Lieber Hi again. It’s me, D. Lieber, urban fantasy author, steampunk, and…well, and a lot of other things. As I mentioned, today is release day! Yay! I’m super excited to tell you about my brand new dieselpunk adventure The Treason of Robyn Hood. Check it out.

What is the price of justice?

As a ward of the Lacklands, Robyn Loxley has lived a privileged life. Even now, in 1942, when another war ravages the world and people on the home front must do without, her adopted family is not affected by the rations and shortages.

That’s not to say she hasn’t been affected by the war personally. As Robyn hits yet another roadblock in her quest to see her best friend Will, trapped in a Japanese-American concentration camp, she stumbles onto the people of Sherwood.

With dark truths revealed about the Lacklands and what really goes on in Midshire, Robyn must answer what justice means to her and what she’s willing to do to exact it.

Robyn and the merry band get an update in this dieselpunk adventure.
My thoughts
I can’t tell you how excited I am to share The Treason of Robyn Hood with the world. I’ve always loved Robin Hood stories, and I had a lot of fun playing with dieselpunk. I loved reimagining long beloved characters and putting them in a new setting.

One of the things I wanted to do with this book is to have a version like the old Robin Hood storybooks (specifically Howard Pyle’s The Merry Adventure of Robin Hood). So, I hired an illustrator, and together we created a special illustrated edition. Man, this thing has it all: the full page ink illustrations, the Lombardic capitals at the beginning of each chapter. We even modeled the cover after those vintage sci-fi magazine, plus the addition of bookbinding tape like on those classic hardcovers.

Unfortunately, I am waiting on print proofs for the special edition at the moment. With all the extra stuff in it, it required a longer production timeline. But it definitely be out soon, so if you’d like that edition, check my website for updates. Or sign up for my newsletter, and I will send you an email to let you know.

Blue Saffire said:
I think my last hero Felix is my favorite for now. I guess because he is still fresh in my mind and because he is a lot like my husband. They all are, but this time I see a lot more of him in this character.

Brothers Black 5: Felix the Watcher Brothers Black Series
[Contemporary IR Romance]

I’m a P.K., a pastor’s kid. I’ve done almost everything I’ve been told since I was a little girl,—no matter how confining that has felt. I’ve hidden my dreams and desires to toe the line.

So imagine the burn of being blamed for something you didn’t do.

There has only ever been one person that truly gets me. He’s the only one that knows who I want to be. Felix Black. He’s been there for me for as long as I can remember. Always listening, always watching, always teaching, always encouraging me.

Which is why I shouldn’t be shocked when he finds me.

It’s my job to watch. To be the eyes for everyone else. I guess that’s why my best friend tasked me with watching over his sister. Yet, that’s something he never had to ask for.

Guilt for what I’ve missed isn’t what has me determined to give Kaye the world. I’ve loved her forever. I will always make sure she’s alright.

And he does give me the world. Felix has the key that unlocks what’s been hidden. His love, his touch, his attention sets a fire that blazes a trail, leaving nothing but black smoke in its wake. When the smoke settles, we’ll just have to see what’s left.
