Charlene is eleven years old and, luckily, has escaped with her life after her father brutally attacked both her and her mother resulting in her mother’s death and leaving Charlene with nasty strangulation marks.
Angie is Charlene’s new foster sister but she has a secret. Angie soon realizes that she can trust Charlene and takes it on herself to teach the new girl about kissing and the difference between boys and girls.
Charlene has faced a major trauma and with the help of her foster family and councilor she is starting to face the horror of her mother’s death. When she discovers Angie’s secret she starts to build a bond with the older girl.
This book is a disappointment to read, the situation is unrealistic and often unsuitable for younger teens. Although I understand that all children experiment, I do not feel it is appropriate for an eleven year old child to be exposed to the intimate anatomy of what is essentially an older male child. I felt that the story was rushed and even with the promise of three further books, it left the ending unfinished.
