Did you know that in the late 1800's the Secret Service was tasked primarily with defending the country against counterfeiters? Most people don't know that, but I found it a very intriguing piece of information. When I received a history book on the agency, I was drawn to the time period where the agents dressed in long coats and wore six shooters at their waists.
I'm so excited to be a part of the Coffee Crew Book Brew "Crime & Punishment" Day. While I enjoy a comedy as good as the next gal, give me a mystery that stems from a crime, whether it be a murder or fraud, and I get all jittery. Is it because I harbor a dark side? Heavens no. It's because I love what most readers love, a plot that they can match brains with. I love to hunker down with a good mystery and follow the clues. Yes, I love to try to outwit the author and when I'm writing a suspense, I like to outwit the reader the same way. For me, it's just a good satisfying book that can keep me guessing until the very end.
In my debut novel, Island of Secrets, there was a murder that happened centuries before the time-traveling heroine was born, but in the end, she must weather the twists of the plot to reach her happy ending. My latest book, The Counterfeit, is a Historical Western Romantic Suspense and while everything happens in the same century, there is plenty of crime to fill the pages with twists and turns that hopefully deliver a satisfying read for all of my fans.
When I first received notice of the theme I was so excited to participate because both of my books fit the theme each in a different way. I'm showcasing THE COUNTERFEIT ( after all it's got a crime in its title).
Jeremy Loud is good at what he does, but when he wakes up naked and disoriented and finds a mysterious red-haired woman busy at his stove his well-laid plans take an unexpected turn.
Magen MacGuire is just an ordinary small-town girl taking care of her elderly father and daydreaming about her future then her father is murdered, and she is fraudulently deprived of her farm. When a catastrophic case of mistaken identity interferes with her plans for revenge, she comes face to face with the last thing she expects, a man she could fall in love with.
One thing is for sure when an undercover Secret Service Agent and a fiesty red head bent on revenge cross paths it means trouble. Secrets bring them together, and secrets threaten to tear them apart. Will love be enough to overcome the lies?
If you love suspense and don't mind a few twists along the way I invite you to sample THE COUNTERFEIT.
