Getting caught would have very dire consequences so Rosamund Carrow must play her role flawlessly. Understanding law and acting as a barrister is easy, fooling everyone into believing she is a man is where it gets tricky.
The time has come for Lord Lawrence Byron to take a wife, although he has no illusions about making a love match. His marriage will be more of a business deal, propelling his career right to the top.
Going up against Lawrence in the courtroom is a thrill for Rosamund, who feels his wit and intelligence is almost as exciting as the man himself. Lawrence is inexplicably drawn to the young barrister, which leaves him rather shaken. When realization dawns, Lawrence cannot help but feel admiration for Rosamund’s nerve. He also understands that this woman is unlike any he has ever known, and their time is quickly coming to an end.
I love how Lawrence and Rosamund match wits in a way that shows just how much they admire and enjoy each other’s intelligence. There is none of the pettiness of gender inequality, just true respect. This is, in my opinion, the sexiest aspect of their relationship. They spar, laugh, and love with gusto, and it is exhilarating to read!
