Hi, I’m Stephanie Burkhart. I write paranormal, steampunk, fantasy, and contemporary romance as well as children’s stories. I love coffee, chocolate, and lilacs. I’m very excited to be here on the blog today. ☺
Just a little about me: I grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, and got my start writing comic books as a 6 year old. When I turned 18, I joined the U.S. Army wanting a great adventure. I became an MP (Military Police) and went off to Germany. I spent 7 years in Europe between 1986-1997. I’ve visited Berlin (before and after the fall of the wall), The Netherlands, Belgium, Paris, Venice, Salzburg, Poland, and Hungary. Two counties I wish I could have visited and hope to get there soon: Great Britain and Canada.
Did I mention I was married in Denmark? 20 years on 14 November!
When I got out of the Army, I settled in Castaic, CA which is north of Los Angeles. I became a 911 Dispatcher for LAPD in 2000. My sons are 9 and 5. Finding balance between working, writing, and being a mommy can be a challenge, but it’s a rewarding one. When I go to sleep, I sleep pretty heavy, so most of my story ideas don’t come from dreams, but from germs of ideas.
I love writing paranormal, steampunk, fantasy and contemporary romance. I also “kind of fell” into children’s writing as well. As a reader, I love historicals of all kinds and settings, including Diana Crosby’s Scottish historicals and Tami Dee’s Vikings. I’m picky about reading paranormals, however. I like the focus to be on the man and how his humanity is challenged by the paranormal creature he is. Barbara Edward’s “Ancient Blood” was a very enjoyable story for me because it was written in this vein. Cole is a werewolf who must learn to balance his life as he falls in love with Lily.
I enjoy Karen Michelle Nutt’s steampunk stories as well as the “Steampunk’d” Anthlogy. For fantasy, I’m really into George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones.” For contemporary stories, I liked Mona Risk’s international novels, “To Love a Hero,” and “French Peril,” as well as romantic suspense by Maggie Toussaint and Melanie Atkins.
The bulk of my work is available as ebooks. My titles include:
The Hungarian, paranormal
The Count’s Lair, paranormal
The Wolf’s Torment, paranormal
Victorian Scoundrel, steampunk
The Giving Meadow, children’s story
Destination: Berlin, sweet contemporary (pen name: SG Cardin)
Anthologies:
Be Mused, story: Matchmaking Amusement, (fantasty/paranormal)
Borealis II, story: Shadows and Light (sci-fi)
Victory Tales Press, Stimulating Anthology, story: Christmas in Bayeux
Victory Tales Press, Spring/Easter Anthology, story: A Polish Heart
I’d love to hear from you. Do you have an ebook reader? How much are you willing to pay for an ebook?

13 years agoHey Steph! Love that the new book will be coming out soon. I had a quick peek through the newsletter and wanted to pop over and say Hi during coffee time. We're in the middle of leaf peeping here in NH and the rain doesn't seem to be bother the tourists one bit. I'm waiting for a sunny weekend so I can grab some nice foliage pics for you. Have a great day! -K

13 years ago AUTHORHi everyone, it's great to be here. Kathleen, I chuckle because one genre I'd like to crack, so to speak, is historical. I love reading historicals, but when it comes to writing one, I'm very challenged, much prefering my contemporaries and paranormals and steampunks.
Celia, thanks for popping in. It's great to see you.
((hugs)) Karen – thanks for visit. Sorry to hear about the rain up your way, but it's always fun to venture out with a good cup of coffee and a great book.

13 years agoSteph, I am impressed with all your books in different genres. You are so prolific. I already read four of them, and I have the others on my reading list.

13 years agoHi Stephanie!
I'm happy to see that you write in a variety of genre's and all of which I love to read except I have yet to read anything in steampunk, but definitely want too.
I do have an ereader (Sony) and love to read on it. It's simple to use and I've not had any problems with it… so far. I've seen ebooks available for purchase up to $10 and find that a bit extreme since there are plenty of paperbacks that are less than that. I thought with buying an ereader I would save money and help save the planet, but while I might be helping save the planet I'm not exactly saving my wallet. Regardless there are plenty of ebooks out there that are much less than that, so it's not like I'm out of options:)
CONGRATS on your 20 years married!!!

13 years ago AUTHORYadira,
It’s great to meet you. If you get a chance, check out Steampunk. My friends who have a Sony really enjoy it. I have a Kindle. I think $10 is too much for an ebook, too.
