Hi, I’m Lisa Carlisle, author of paranormal romance and new adult romance. I’m here for this month’s Book Brew to share the setting of A Marine’s Proposal, which takes place on the tropical island of Okinawa, Japan.

As a young Marine myself many years ago, I was deployed over to Okinawa and was fascinated by the culture and scenery on this tiny island in the South Pacific on the other side of the world. I’d grown up in New England, near the ocean, but this was very different–a tropical island with renowned beaches and ancient castles. Even though I’m not a beach person, I was taken by the scenery and loved to spend my weekends exploring castles, ruins, and botanical gardens. A once in a lifetime experience.

Not only did the beauty stick with me, but its culture and tragic history as well. Okinawa suffered terribly in many battles over the centuries, most recently with battles during World War II. You can see the breathtaking caves where countless Okinawans jumped to their deaths. A scar in such as serene setting.
