BLURB:
Will the sexy Enforcer be tough enough to tame this fluffy little stray?
Kat hasn’t always been a stray — but times are tough, and when she lost her job, her no-good boyfriend dumped her. Now she lives in a deserted basement and scrounges for food behind the restaurants in the better section of town, while attending school during the day.
Jake feeds scraps of his dinner to the fluffy little con artist from time to time as he walks his beat, and he can’t get the sassy stray off his mind. He feels a strange affinity for the feisty little kitty so he decides to trap her and tame her. What he doesn’t realize is that she’s a shifter, and she’ll con his heart right out of his chest
CTR: What made you decide to write this particular book? Did you have a special uniformed person in mind or just admire them all? Can you give us some story behind the story?
AK: Protect and Serve is a multi – author series. One of the author’s (Lena Austin) threw the idea of a series based on uniformed service men and women out on a discussion loop, and the idea just kind of grew as we through ideas back and forth. It’s a fairly open concept, any uniformed service qualifies so long as that person is a hero. Of course, being the Changelings, we’ve managed to throw in a few twists just for fun…
CTR: How about the spouses and SOs of our uniformed protectors—do you know one and sympathize with the special stresses they have to endure? Do you think couples can make two careers of this kind work?
AK: I admire the people who sit at home, knowing their loved ones are out putting their lives on the line for the greater good. I think it takes a special kind of person to be able to deal with that kind of stress. I do know a few, and they are all wonderful, supportive people. I don’t know any coples who make this work, but I’m sure they’re out there quietly making the world a better place for all the rest of us.
CTR: What do you think is the special appeal of men and women in uniform, be it military, law enforcement, fire fighters or others? Do they make good romance characters because of this?
AK: I know the sight of a uniform makes me feel just a tiny bit safer, and I’m sure that’s true for a lot of men and women. That’s what makes them good characters for romance novels. They are good people , and we love to love them.
CTR: Let’s switch subjects a little bit now. Here we are at the start of a brand new year. Are you one of those folks who makes a big list of resolutions and struggles to keep at least some of them or do you take a pass on this custom?
AK: I’m not much of a resolution maker, but I really do need to try to lose some weight this year. It seems to be creeping up on me 5 pounds at time!
CTR: Do you have a goal, plan or dream for something to do this year?
AK: I want to do more camping this year! I started taking my dog, my kayak and my tent and going camping in the back country a few years ago and found I really enjoy the peace and quiet so my goal is to spend at least a couple of weeks away from anything resembling technology this summer.
CTR: Where do you see yourself and your writing career on Jan 1, 2012? 2020? Even farther into the future?
AK: When I first started writing, my goal was to get published. Then, I wrote a lot of short novellas while I worked on refining my writing and improving my style. I’d like to finish a longer work in the next year or so and see where that takes me. I’m actually quite happy with my little niche so I’m in no hurry to move on. I’d like to stay writing the shorter pieces that are so much fun, with some longer ones in between which will allow me to work on more complex plots and characters. The beauty of a writing career is that I can decide where I want to go with it.
