Ha, did that get your attention? Although that is the title of my latest LGBT romance release, it’s a fun word too. Maybe it is the Irish in me but I love to play with words. I am known among close friends for awful puns and doggerel verses but another game of mine is recasting words by taking them apart. Let me explain. Take the good word “alternative.” Â If you take it apart, you have alter and native so I see that alternative means a change in the native inhabitants or a change of native inhabitants. Cool, huh?
Let’s do it with Catastrophe which requires just a couple of wee changes in spelling. We have cat -a$$ -trophy! And that is just risque enough to make me giggle! In a way that would tie back to my new tale but a bit more background on it first.
Most of you regulars here know that I wrote for Amber Quill Press. They have a regular genre fiction line and then their two erotic romance lines, Amber Heat for hetero stories and Amber Allure for the LGBT fiction. Some time back we began to get together and write five stories on a theme or tag line such as song titles, eras, sub-genres such as Gothic etc. Some are more specific than others but with five different authors we always have a range of tales in each of these Amber PAX (c) collections.
Somebody came up with the idea–after a couple of werewolf groups were written-to do a cat shifter PAX. Now everyone knows I love dogs, all animals really but especially dogs and horses. Cats are good too but I am allergic to them, seriously so. Well, we have to have five authors committed before one of these is given a green light and the cat shifter bunch was one short. I was prevailed upon to give it a try. I whined a little about my allergy and the fact I don’t know that much about cats but about then from that mental closet writers have, a guy came out wiping his nose and saying how much he loved all the felines…. Well dang, when a character does that I have no choice. I must write that story or be badgered to death! So I did.
Carl, my first hero, is the cat lover. He works in a zoo as a veterinary technician and the felines are his special charges. Â But he fights allergies all the time. He especially loves the cheetahs. I caught a National Geographic special on these amazing cats and fell in love with them too. So, guess what my first shifter turned out to be? And that is how Catastrophe came about. I’ll give you the buy link and all that good stuff in another post soon.
