Domin drew herself up and hissed. “I not work for stupid male.” She crossed her arms. “I work for me. I pick who I want. Most, I pick ahnsgah. Female. Pretty ahsgah. Male.” She nudged her chin at him. “Like you. But no one tell me who. No one make me.” She patted her chest. “I like money. I like what I do.” She wrinkled her nose. “Humans sell other humans for sex?”
In the Empire, such work was an honored profession, but in unlit corners, underhanded business took place. “Sometimes.”
“Female with female, not allowed on Felidae, but this bar,” she extended a claw toward the door, “is different. We free here. If want you, nahee, I take you.” She added, “But you still pay.”
He inclined his head. “I’ll be happy to pay.”
“Good. You pay for horse tomorrow. Tonight, I take you.”
Pietas leaned toward her, but she put one hand on his chest.
“You not boss. I say when kiss, nahee.” She patted herself. “I domin. Not you.”
Domin. Which meant Ma’am. And apparently, dominatrix. The name of the bar, Padlock, her attitude, the way others deferred to her, all fell into place. Not only was this a brothel, it was an all-female bar that catered to dominants and submissives. How rare that must be on Felidae.
And what a happy accident for him. If his friends could see him now… Not one would be surprised. Pietas hid his teeth in a polite Kin smile. “Yes, ma’am,” he replied, with enthusiasm. “I understand completely.”
“Good.” Domin curled one finger beneath his chin. “Then I kiss you.”

3 years agoI loved writing this scene. It let me show a side of Pietas that I rarely get to reveal.
