Sixteen year old Rebecca, ‘Becca’, wakes up in a hospital after a serious car accident which almost killed her. Her being a hairbreadth away from death removed the veil which normally hides all things supernatural, except from a select few. Becca is now a part of the select few.

As the voices; a ghost and an angel, make their presence known, Becca is unbelieving, thinking she is dreaming. Then the elves and faeries are introduced, and she finds a menacing new presence of demons. That is when everything she has ever believed in goes out the window.

Suddenly ghosts are everywhere, demons are dropping by, and she has to learn how to function normally in front of everyone else without them thinking she needs to be in asylum. Along the way, she is attracted to an elven prince and a teenage ghost. And let us not forget a demon out to kill her at night. So many things happening, too little time to figure it out, and almost no sleep. Will she survive all of this and finally embrace the new her?

This book left me with mixed feelings. For one thing, the author tried introducing many things amid the suspense. Some twists and turns are surprising but not delved into fully. No wonder Becca is frustrated with her ‘guides’. The ghost, Mark, is sent to try to explain things to her, but when the angel arrives he simply states she will learn with time. The elf prince is the only one to teach her. Teach her what, since he only warns her to keep their existence secret and worries about her? There are many other confusing incidences like this. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Becca’s ability to face things spot-on, overcome her fears to fend off menaces, and her courage. She is the heart of this book. I also loved Mark. He is cute and funny. Even the midget evil demon is fun. The ghosts, elves, and faeries are interesting characters but not real enough to connect with. I wish the author had spent more time on the whys instead of moving too fast with the story. I do, however, look forward to reading the next book.
