What is the price of justice?
As a ward of the Lacklands, Robyn Loxley has lived a privileged life. Even now, in 1942, when another war ravages the world and people on the home front must do without, her adopted family is not affected by the rations and shortages.
That’s not to say she hasn’t been affected by the war personally. As Robyn hits yet another roadblock in her quest to see her best friend Will, trapped in a Japanese-American concentration camp, she stumbles onto the people of Sherwood.
With dark truths revealed about the Lacklands and what really goes on in Midshire, Robyn must answer what justice means to her and what she’s willing to do to exact it.
Robyn and the merry band get an update in this dieselpunk adventure.
My thoughts
I can’t tell you how excited I am to share The Treason of Robyn Hood with the world. I’ve always loved Robin Hood stories, and I had a lot of fun playing with dieselpunk. I loved reimagining long beloved characters and putting them in a new setting.
One of the things I wanted to do with this book is to have a version like the old Robin Hood storybooks (specifically Howard Pyle’s The Merry Adventure of Robin Hood). So, I hired an illustrator, and together we created a special illustrated edition. Man, this thing has it all: the full page ink illustrations, the Lombardic capitals at the beginning of each chapter. We even modeled the cover after those vintage sci-fi magazine, plus the addition of bookbinding tape like on those classic hardcovers.
Unfortunately, I am waiting on print proofs for the special edition at the moment. With all the extra stuff in it, it required a longer production timeline. Both Jasper Coutts and Alex Van-Zeller both think Sophie is beautiful but Alex is the first to declare he wants to have her. Jasper keeps to himself but Sophie starts to slowly pull him out of his shell. She finds out the reason he`s so sad is his younger brother Christian recently died. Jasper is afraid to sleep in the bed because he was sleeping next to Christian when he died in his sleep. Sophie tells him if it would be easier for him he could sleep in her bed with her. At first, he resists but eventually when exhaustion is so bad he has to get some sleep he gives it a try and it soon becomes a habit but all they do is sleep until one night he spoons her and massages her abdomen while she is having cramps. Alex is a trust fund baby with more money than he could possibly spend in one life-time and he`s been deaf since birth and has cochlear implants and he is determined to have Sophie but she keeps resisting him because he seems like a `man whore" and she doesn`t want to join the parade but once he kisses her, really kisses her, her will power is losing strength.

There’s a special place in my heart for Ivy Miller, heroine of Ten Thousand Hours. She’s always felt the need to compensate for her out-of-control sister by being ultra sensible and responsible. Everyone in her life is accustomed to her filling that role, and trying to do anything fun and exciting brings about their disappointment and censure. She feels stifled by her good-girl image... until, during a weekend getaway, she meets a man who has no idea she’s sensible, responsible, and boring. With this stranger, she speaks her mind, flirts outrageously, and does things Boring Old Ivy would never dare. She walks away from her first one-night stand high on rebellion and his parting assurance that she’s anything but boring.
When she returns home, family, friends, and work conspire to stuff her back into the close confines of her sensible box.
