QUESTION: What inspired you to write your debut novel?
Ruth Kaufman said:
I’d read hundreds of historical romance novels and had thought about writing one, but didn’t know where to start. One day, the beginning of the opening scene popped into my head. I saw a woman slumped on a horse that was walking slowly over a hill in a forest. A knight and his men saw her, then someone else came over the hill and grabbed her. Who was she? Who was the knight, and why was he there? Who was chasing her and why? And I was off.
