March 2019: Keeper Shelf

CTR asked:
Which book is at the top of your keeper shelf, the book you like to re-read over and over? And why?
Sloan McBride said:
It’s hard to pick just one. I re-read certain series of Nora Roberts over and over, the most recent being The Bride Quartet. I love the way she creates the relationships between all the characters and transports me to another place. The interactions, the love, the bond is compelling. You get drawn into the stories and swept away by the characters. Being a paranormal writer myself, I am especially partial to the series that involve magick. Any kind of paranormal will do. One that I keep close is The Donovan Legacy. Love, love, love these characters and the mysterious, the Circle Trilogy, the Sign of Seven Trilogy, favorites all. My most recent favorite is the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy. The brothers are strong, committed, loyal to each other, even in the fighting. It’s a strong family, and the women who come into their lives are strong heroines as well. There is a paranormal element that runs through each book. I so want to go to stay at Inn Boonsboro (a real place), and visit Turn the Page Bookstore (Nora’s bookstore).
Family is strong in Ms. Roberts’ books. I started back in the day with the MacGregors Series. I found it so entertaining that I scooped up every book Nora Roberts has written ever since. One that is a heart favorite is the Chesapeake Bay Saga. These four brothers, all adopted but family nonetheless. The Gallaghers of Ardmore, the Three Sisters Island Trilogy and the Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy bring me back into the supernatural and paranormal, the place I call home. Ms. Roberts weaves the mystery, beauty and magick of the old countries – Ireland and Scotland – into some of her tales, which add a special something that can only be explained if you visit these places. That’s not to say that her here and now stories don’t do the same. That is why I keep most all of Nora Roberts’ books and read them many times.
