Hi guys! I’ll be at Coffee Time Romance all day today posting about my new release, STUDENSTEIN. To start the day off right, here’s a little post about heroes, and my favorite kind…
* * * * *
Step aside alpha males! Stop yer weepin’ lost soul heroes! And bad boys? You’re not as naughty as you think.
Charming heroes rule! Who can deny a sweet-talking hot-shot who can get any women (or man) on her knees? Few things get my heart pounding as fast as a rakish lift of an eyebrow, or a cool and appraising once-over. I’ve written seven stories to date, and three of them have starred this kind of hero. And each time, I’ve discovered something fresh about this tried-and-true romance archetype.
My first charmer was Sidon, the gorgeous sea dragon shifter from Mere Temptation. He and the heroine Isa had known each other since they were kids. Not only was he sex-on-wheels, but he also understood the heroine inside and out. Poor Isa never stood a chance!
My second was the god Mercury from Mercury Rising. Unlike the more mercenary of his ken, Mercury wasted all his considerable charm trying to please everyone. Hence, the unfortunate Mercury gleaned little benefit from his overabundance of agreeableness.
And now there’s Royce, from my new release STUDENSTEIN! Royce is”¦ Well, he’s literally perfect. A reanimated human programmed to fulfill any woman (or man’s) desires, Royce turns every conversation into innuendo. He’ll flash his impeccable body at anyone who’ll look. He’s easily the sluttiest guy I’ve ever written. And that makes him special.
In some ways, Royce resembles the unflappable Gwenvael the Handsome from What a Dragon Should Know. (By the way””G.A. Aiken’s Dragon’s Kin series is probably my biggest influence as a writer.) However, while Gwenvael’s vanity arises from his devastating good looks, Royce is conceited because he knows he’s godly in bed.
His job as a sex-slave involves getting people off day in and day out, and Royce is understandable attached to his role. So when Shani Brown shows up to “free” him, Royce can’t quite understand the benefits of leaving his builders’ stable.
Like all rakes, however, Royce meets his match. He encounters a woman who wants him for more than his cough “endowments.” Shani encourages Royce to be more than a pretty face, and even picks up a little of his charm along the way!
