CTR asked:

Who was your hardest character to write? And why?

Ruth A. Casie said:

Alex Stelton in The Guardian’s Witch. He wouldn’t talk to me. I know, sounds odd since I put the words in his mouth but I couldn’t get him to open up. I had a break through when I was driving down the NJ Turnpike. I begged him to speak to me and got aggravated and stepped on the gas. A few miles later I was on the side of the road with red and blue lights flashing behind me.

To make a long story short, I told the officer I was distracted trying to figure out a plot point with… my hero sitting next to me. Of course the passenger seat was empty. I got off with a warning, but so did Alex. The officer told him to cooperate or his story may never make to publication.

I drove the next hour with Alex explaining how distracted he was with trying to manage his responsibilities. Once I got that, he told me everything.
