Connor Wabsik is a firefighter in the Bay area of California. He is on suspension for punching out his commanding officer. When his superior officers say he must move to a sleepy little California mountain town, he is just relieved he was not fired.
Andy McGuire is a detective in Riesgo, CA where Connor has been sent to work. He has been very unlucky in love and discovered a man he has been having a relationship with is getting married and will not be coming around anymore. Though they were not exclusive, this makes Andy wary of other men and future potential relationships.
When Connor sees Andy when he arrives in town for the interview, he is very attracted to him, and the way he smells. Though Connor had never believed that it was possible for a human to be a mate, he realizes relatively quickly that Andy is his. The only problem is, Andy is relationship phobic, even after they get together. Then when you couple that with an arsonist in town, and buildings going up left and right, things just become even more complicated for the pair. Still the two cannot seem to stay away from one another, at least until Connor does the unthinkable in an effort to save Andy, and in turn scares the living hell out of him. Will Connor be able to convince Andy that his ability to shift into a lion is not anything for him to fear, and that he only wants to love and protect Andy for the rest of their lives?
Pride Under Fire is one of those unique and fun shifter stories that just keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one of those books that you just cannot stop turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. I really loved how Connor and Andy are each what the other needs without their really being aware of how well they fit together at leats in the beginning. They just really compliment each other and this makes the story have so much for page turning value. The love scenes are hotter than hot and that alone is enough to keep you reading, but the world building, and suspense also contribute to this. This is one story you do not want to miss! Now I just need to go and get the rest of this series!
