Kevin is a lone wolf and has been one for nearly his entire life, and he is okay with that. Unlike most wolves, he does not feel the need to be a part of a pack. He has just been fired from his job and has a crush on his neighbor and best friend, a wolf who actually has a pack.
Taylor is the son of the Harrington Hills alpha and the alpha’s heir. He moved to San Francisco as a rite of passage and loves living close to Kevin, his best friend. But he knows it is just temporary and that eventually he will move back to Harrington Hills and someday take over as alpha.
When Taylor asks Kevin to pretend to be his date and travel home to Harrington Hills with him for a wedding, Kevin is skeptical. After all he has had a crush on Taylor forever, and if he has to pretend to be Taylor’s boyfriend, Taylor might find out and that could ruin their friendship. Though because of these reasons he wants to say no, Kevin loves Taylor and cannot find it within himself to leave his best bud in the lurch so to speak, so he agrees to go along. Neither man likes lying to Taylor’s parents or pack, but Taylor likes the idea of his mother and alpha throwing eligible males in his path even less. In this case, it is the lesser of two evils. But somehow in all the pretending, Taylor discovers that he and Kevin fit together as a couple very well, and he begins to have deeper feelings for Kevin. Kevin is afraid that his best friend is just putting on an act and as such does not want to believe that Taylor might actually have feelings for him. As their relationship changes and deepens will the two men be able to reconcile the fact that their relationship is changing for the better, and go with the flow, or will fear tear them apart?
I usually do not care for best friends become lovers stories, but Leading Me Home is so much more than that. This story has ended up on my keeper and re-read list now because the author just did such a stellar and emotional job on crafting this story. I loved the themes of being led home, of finding a place to call home, and of finding love where you least expect it. Both Taylor and Kevin are complex characters and watching them navigate what it means to be both a couple and part of a larger family made me not want this story to end. I most definitely will be buying the other books in this series, because this one was absolutely stellar! If you love m/m romance, and shifter stories with a lot of emotion, and hot sex, you do not want to miss Leading Me Home by Megan Linden!
