Keira Foley, an officer from Earth, is newly arrived to Mythreal, and there to stop a potential scandal. After discovering traces of spying in the embassy, she makes plans to confront the spy behind it. She was not expecting that spy to actually be the head of security for the planet, or to be so very gorgeous. Despite her disguise of being a plain woman, she has hopes he will see the person behind it all.

Dillon Greenleaf, member of the ruling family of Mythral and head of security for the planet, thought he caught a spy in the new officer from Earth, Keira. The speed of which she became close with the officer in charge of Earth’s embassy, has him suspicious. For this reason, he decides to spy himself, going against policy to gain answers. Unexpectedly, he is caught by Keira who requests a meeting to confront him.

Dillon has avoided women as they only seemed to want him because of his last name. When he meets Keira, he finds himself becoming enthralled with the clever woman despite her appearance. Keira is not there to look for a spy, or have to explain herself to the strikingly handsome head of security. Once things are made clear they will have to think about putting aside their differences and do it fast, before they lose a chance for love.

Though the idea of Mythral and its related history is very creative and fantastical, it appeared to be too complex for the story’s length. The descriptions came mostly in “info dumps” and through the inner monologs of Keira and Dillon, which gave the story more of a “tell” vibe for me. At times I felt like I was missing something, like the story was set in an already established series. Despite the components of an interesting premise, interesting world and characters the results did not work for me.
