It has been ten years since Van has spoken to his grandfather, Dono. Their lives went in very different directions. Now Dono has asked Van to come home to Seattle. Van feels obligated to return and arrives at Dono’s home to find him on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. Van has to return to the world he left to find the killer and to keep himself out of jail.

This is an exciting mystery. The author supplies the reader with numerous clues, and at the end I saw where they led but not until the end. The characters are well-drawn and not really sympathetic in this gritty dark mystery. The plot is full of action, violence, and interesting twists and turns. Past Crimes will especially appeal to male readers, but anyone who loves a mystery they can really sink their teeth into will love this book.
