Brooke Miller had ideas of going to college, then law school before falling in love, having children and obtaining the perfect marriage. She never considered the heartbreak or hard work that came with it, nor facing competition with her fiancée in the courtroom.
Jack Solomon lives with his fiancée, Brooke. Both are lawyers, preparing for their upcoming wedding. When he learns he is the opposing attorney in a case with her, a light goes off in his head. A little competition might be good but he never thought it would extend to the home.
Brooke has a busy schedule making plans for her upcoming wedding and Jack is a great fiancé offering a good deal of support. There is the planning, with the help of friends, not to mention her mother, who watches every bit of cellulite that shows on the body, and is not afraid to mention it. Then comes the day to gather with the other in-laws and make their acquaintance. If Brooke thought all that was a rush she lands a huge case only to find out Jack is to litigate the upcoming court case against her. Jack is a bit startled by the events and wonders if Brooke is afraid of a little competition. Now it is no holds barred as Brooke and Jack put on the fighting gloves, and Brooke sees her fiancé in a whole different light.
Jack With a Twist is like a breath of fresh air. The robust characters are a delight, full of brilliant conversation, with secondary characters that add just the right zing to the plot. I loved when Brooke was thinking about having a married life like her parents then thought of the behind the door scene. That was a bit comical when it comes to thinking about your parents. When she met the parents and Jack’s siblings, I thought it amusing how she compared it to a job interview. Brenda Janowitz makes the dialogue and expressions between Brooke and Jack believable. There were times I felt I was in the middle of the tête-à-tête. Yes, fireworks leap off the pages in this hilarious look at romance, marriage and family life, especially with a mom I can relate to.
