Interview with Sutton Fox

Welcome to Coffee Time Romance, I’m Hollie and I’ll be interviewing you this afternoon. First let me thank you for spending your Sunday afternoon with me I hope the weather is better where you are. It is cold, windy and raining here in the UK.

First off, let me say ‘Thank-you’ for having me. I’m thrilled to be here. I’m very lucky. The weather in Georgia is beautiful. Sixty degrees and the trees are vivid in their fall colors of oranges, golds and reds.

If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be?

Ordinary – I don’t see myself as different from any other woman.

Strong-minded – I tend to be an independent thinker. I don’t feel the need for approval of my thoughts or opinions.

Relentless – Once I have a goal in mind, I’m relentless in my pursuit of it. I don’t quit. Obstacles are just something to overcome on the way to my goal.

What genres and authors would we find you reading as downtime from your own writing?

Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Acheron and C.L. Wilson’s King of Sword and Sky. I love paranormal and fantasy, even though I don’t write it.

What is sexier to you in a person? The way they walk, the clothes they wear or the overall confidence they project?

The overall confidence they project is very sexy to me. The guy’s who don’t feel like they need to make an impression, usually impress me more than the other two. They are the most interesting. I want to know what’s going on behind the eyes. Is there depth of character? Soul?

If you could make your stories three dimensional, which sense would you add and why?

Very interesting question. After much deliberation, I would have to say, touch. Since my stories revolve around racing, one would think either sight or sound since race tracks are a plethora of both. However, touch is an important and often overlooked human element. I would want people to be able to feel the warmth of the sun on their faces, the breeze in their hair. How the ground vibrates with horsepower from twenty-four cars heading all- out into turn one at the drop of the green flag. And most important the touch of love, from someone who truly loves, there’s nothing like it.

If one of your books could be made into a movie which would it be and who would you like to play your favorite characters?

Mmm. Only one? Just kidding. Let’s take Center Ring. I don’t want to be a spoiler. My vision for the lead characters would be Dwayne Johnson for the role of Roane Jameson. While I do like intelligence, there is nothing wrong with it arriving in a fine package, with a sense of humor. And for the part of Julia Cameron, I’m thinking Nicole Kidman. She’s tall, elegant and seems standoffish, just the way I imagined Julia to be. I’ve never seen them cast together and I just hope the chemistry would be there.

Having met my husband at a race track I can understand your love of motor sport, but can you share with our readers what it is that appeals to you?

The primary appeal is that it’s enjoyable. It’s casual, fun, laid-back and I get to meet great people. The secondary but no less important appeal is the competition. It’s vital, it’s demanding, sometimes high-pressure and more often than not, the work is very gratifying. Two sides of the coin, I suppose.

How close are the characters in Center Ring to those of people you know in the real world?

I wouldn’t say the characters are particularly close to any one person. They are more an amalgamation of traits I admire or not, from different people and my imagination. Although some of the things they deal with are based somewhat on reality. For example, in Center Ring, Roane deals with a very painful issue which is not fully resolved in the book. I have personal experience with this, as do some of my friends. And it is not something I would wish on anyone. These types of things take a long time to reach resolution if they ever do. In his case it does finally get resolved in another book, he’s asked me to be fair and tell someone else’s side of the story…

Your books are standalone but is there a continuation of characters or story lines or are they just based on a central theme- that of motor sport?

There is a continuation of characters of sorts. The stories focus on different aspects of Cameron Motorsports and the people employed by them. So you will see some of the same characters in each book, but the focus of the separate books will be on different characters. Lion Tamers is the story of Morgan Blade and Tyler Dalton. Morgan is a contestant in a contest put on by Cameron Motorsports and is hired by them. Center Ring is about Roane Jameson and Julia Cameron, the owner of Cameron Motorsports. High Wire is about Sarah Miller and Damon Blade. Damon is Morgan’s brother and also works for Cameron. And so on. There are five books in the series.

I know you have a new book coming soon could you tell us about that?

High Wire, the third book in the Traveling Circus series is one close to my heart. I love dirt super late models and I just had to have a go at writing a story for one of those bad-boy racing types. Don’t you just love them? This book releases February 2, 2009. Here is the blurb for your readers.

Blurb:

Love is the toughest balancing act of all.

Sarah Miller lands what she believes will be a dream job with Cameron Motorsports. Instead, she ends up as crew chief for Dirt Late Model racing sensation, Damon Blade. As a woman in a man’s sport, this is her chance to prove herself and her skills. Walking out is not an option.

Damon Blade has too many women running his life. Getting stuck with a female crew chief is the last straw. Until he discovers someone with a grudge is determined to end not only his career, but his entire existence. With life in the fast lane spinning out of control, his future and Sarah’s are on the brink of disaster.

They’ll need to take the ‘I’ out of teamwork and pull together. To save not only their careers, but the one thing they’ve discovered they want most. Each other.
