Can you judge a book by it’s cover?

When you are shopping for a book what is it that you look for? Is it the blurb on the back, the author, or is it the cover that ultimately makes you pick it up and check it out?

I know for me I have my auto-buy authors but after that it’s the cover that draws me in and then of course I check out the back of the book blurb and if there’s an excerpt well I always check that out too, but a good cover draws me in.

So far I’ve been really lucky with my covers, some are really sexy, some are more sensual and some and some are just generally attractive.  I’m never sure when I fill out my cover request forms what kind of thing I think is most important on  cover Sexy. That the people look like the characters etc. I’m kind of torn honestly.

Sex, Sin and Surf by Lauren Fraser   Longing for Kayla by Lauren Fraser     Dani's Duo by Lauren Fraser   Too Hot by Lauren Fraser

Aged to Perfection by Lauren Fraser  The Geek Next Door by Lauren Frasedr    Letting Go by Lauren Fraser   Undercover Attraction by Lauren Fraser

So what is it you look for in a cover? What draws your eye and makes you pick up a book?

You have some beautiful sexy covers!! Yes, I hate to admit it but I DO judge books by their covers. It's hard not to.

Covers are so so important. It has to give me an instant idea of what the story is about and entice me to want to read the back blurb. Like you, I do have my list of author's I;d read even if the cover was plain white with just the title printed.  But when I'm looking for soemthing new, yeah, cover art is huge!! I don;t know if I can really explain what makes me liek a cover, but I know it when I see it! I am dfinitely turned off by corny covers, especially in romance. I can't help it!! I tend to like simple I guess…more artistic. Love Aged to perfection and Letting Go!

I'll admit that I'm drawn to covers as well. Visual interest in color and style. I don't like cartoonish covers, but that's just me. Doesn't matter if it's just the hero or heroine or both on the cover. I think it's color that catches my eye most. Your cover for Letting Go caught my eye immediately, but so did Too Hot, for obvious reasons. 🙂

I think the covers that draw me aren't the ones with couples embracing, but the ones with characters just looking very pensive and intense.  I really like the Longing for Kayla cover!

Like you, I have a list of autobuy authors. I also check out books that those authors recommend and those other readers talk about on various blogs.  As for covers, colors attract my eye.  Sexy covers are great, but they don't influence my purchase.

You have beautiful covers.  They are so important in selling a book, and it's a great day when the cover artist "gets it."  A good one will nail your characters and the tone of your book and entice a reader from browsing to buying.

Hi, Lauren!  Great line up!  I have to admit that while a cover may make me pick up a book, it won't necessarily make me buy it.  The excerpt and blurb have to work for me, too!  But a great cover is a real treat–one that gives me a feel for the story and its characters and that looks good, ah… I can look at some covers all day 😉

It might not always be fair, but I do tend to look at the cover of a book first.
