Who Needs a Bed? Not My Characters!

I've been on this blog tour for a while now.  The best part is hearing from you, the readers.  Which is why I need your feedback.  When I write a romance, I try to make it a bit exotic, a bit fantastic…which can be tough, since I write contemporary romance. Real life characters in real life situations. So I pump it up a notch wherever possible. Hence the non-bedroom sex. After all, where’s the escape in reading about squeezing in sex between soccer carpools and dinner? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that – take it when and wherever you can get it!).

In the space of three books, I've managed to set my characters makeout and/or sex scenes in the following places:

  • a car at the city dump (sexier than it sounds, because bad guys were in hot pursuit!)
  • a porch swing
  • a park by the Mississippi
  • locked into a costume room in a theatre
  • out on a patio
  • in a hot tub on a cruise ship
  • on a cruise ship balcony
  • and, in my just finished book, in an elevator and a trolley

But I'd love to hear from you guys.  What offbeat location would you like to see my characters canoolding?  This is fiction, so it doesn't have to be 100% real life doable – just mostly believable (Statue of Liberty's torch – not believable.  Steps of the Lincoln Monument at night – well, I wouldn't try it with all those park police around, but it could fly in a book).  Send me all your ideas.  I'm going to give a copy of my book Cruising Toward Love to one inventive commenter.  If there are enough fabulous suggestions, I'll even do a blog post about it this week at http://christibarth.blogspot.com .  Have fun with this – ask your girlfriends, ask your boyfriends/hubbys.  Think outside the box!
