I understand the need for government … sort of. I get that there are those who fought for us to have freedom and to live our lives without the worry of war and/or famine to survive. What I don't get it how we end up having people controlling our lives who don't have a clue how to live.
Are there any politicians out there who really get what it's like to be the 'little man'? I hear the 'when I was younger, we had it rough,…blah blah' that they dish out, but seriously – NOW they're living the high life. Imagine having to work only a few years and being set for life. What about the rest of us who have to work for our entire lives – practically having one foot in the grave before being able to retire – and STILL being forced to work part time to keep our heads above water.
Why can't they spend at least six months of their time in office living as a low income person so they can appreciate what it's really like. They can pretend to know, but they have no idea. Leave them with no health insurance, no private car, no meal allowance…just the average income and see how they get along.
My family is going through a transition where we're being forced to relocate because of a decision by government to move my husband's job for political reasons. They are trying to get votes up west and in order to do that, they need government present there. Instead of creating jobs (which is what they call it – job creation) they relocated the ones who are centrally located and move them two hours away. This upsets the whole dynamic – cost of fuel, moving families, I mean I have a job here locally and the kids go to school. We would have to turn our lives upside down for what – votes???
Anyone who says "be thankful you have a job" shouldn't judge unless you're in the situation. Of course we're thankful he has a job, but we need two incomes to keep us going and if we move, I lose my job and the kids have to change schools and I'm looking for childcare. Our son is in university here and would have to find a place to stay. My mother watches the kids after school and would be heartbroken to lose the kids – even if we're only a couple hours away she's had them two minutes away since they were born – and they're 11 and 8.
I guess the only alternative is to win the lottery. Anyone have good tips?? LOL
Have a great day, everyone! Hold your loved ones close and be thankful for every day as it comes.
Bonnie that's a horrible thing to happen to your family. My first thought was long commute for hubby. I've done the 1 1/2hr commute everday into Boston and although gas is high I didn't have to move away from family (my Mom lives next door) or uproot anyone. It was the best decision for me. Sorry your having to make these deicsions:(
Hear, hear! Yeah! I've thought the same thoughts many, many, many times in the last decade, Bonnie. That our politicians are ruling the country only for the betterment of their own class…the rich. I, too, am dispairingly frustrated that the politicians (and I mean both parties, all parties are the same now I believe anyway) talk a good game about serving/helping the middle class, but they have NO IDEA what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck. I've been around a long time and have seen a lot. I know. Wages that have frozen or been reduced now for years as the cost of everything else has skyrocketed. I have brothers and sisters who've lost their long-term good jobs and for the first time in their long lives are in dire straits; know once middle-class people who have to work low level jobs for pennies because it's all they can find; know people (my poor husband included, who is forced to work 50-60 hours a week or he'll be escorted out the door) who are being mistreated like slaves at their jobs because their employers know they'd in such terror of losing them; I have family and friends who don't have health insurance and live in fear of getting sick…. I can go on and one and on, but won't. It seems to me that the politicians are only looking out for the wealthy like themselves.Yes, let them live like the middle class for a year and see how fast they change their tunes. I think we need a revolution. All politicians out in one sweep and all new ones in. Just venting here. Love your post! Author Kathryn Meyer Griffith
