What does a fire shifter turn into?

Hi, I’m Sabrina Garie.  I love animals and shifters””any form””fur, scales, feathers. Its that interplay between animal driveDinks Life Icon and human emotion that makes for a great story.  I have a goofball cat (isn’t he cute?),  intend to get a dog sometime in the next few years (as soon as my kid is old enough to really take care of it) and live with shifters on the brain.

I’ve started helping out around here on Book Brew and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity today to share some of my own work.  My debut novella,  Fires of Justice, stars Cullen McMahan, who is a fire shifter.  He taps into elemental magic and morphs into fire-related creatures, most of which are mythical.  In this snippet, we see him shift for the first time in front of our heroine, Calista Reid, a fire witch, who says the first line.

“Can I watch you shift?”

“Of course, but it’s quick. It’s nothing like the movies where you see every limb contort in slow motion.”

In a burst of light, a beautiful golden bird with a wingspan as long as she was tall, a brilliant red crest, a long, golden plumed tail and glowing fire-orange eyes stood in front of her.

“A phoenix, how fantastic.” She clapped her hands with childish joy.

Cullen shows another side of himself in a later part of the book. Take a look:

Cullen wondered if he was meant to hear that, filing it away for later reflection as he blinked back the fatigue. He gave Calista a lot of magic, more then he should have and now struggled to maintain the dragon form. His wings flapped at double speed, his throat ached from blowing the fire out of his mouth. Energy bled from his body into the node. Exhaustion threatened to overtake him as his chakras collapsed into themselves, pulling his consciousness with them.

Do you have a favorite non-furry animal that you like to see in shifter stories or do the furry ones own your heart?

One commenter on any one of my posts will get one free copy of Fires of Justice.

Looking forward to chatting with you.
