I’m a writer and avid reader of historical romance. I enjoy paranormals, too, but I love a historical setting whether the hero is an embittered noble or a sexy vampire. Don’t get me wrong–I love a heartwarming contemporary romance, but there’s something about a historical romance to sweep me away from reality and into romance.
Here are thirteen reasons I love historical romance:
1) The sense of being swept away to another time
2) The ability to vicariously experience historical events through the characters’ experiences
3) Swordfights!
4) Alpha males in elegant clothing
5) Alpha males in kilts
6) Rugged Scottish highlanders
7) Sophisticated English rakes
8) Sexy Rebel and Yankee soldiers
9) Pirates in the eighteenth and nineteenth century smell a lot better in fiction than they probably did in real life
10) A rugged man could get away with wearing a puffy shirt
11) I can experience a sense of history while still enjoying my hot showers and indoor plumbing.
12) There’s something about a man on horseback 🙂
13) I fantasize about…a time when women wore long skirts all the time…no squats and lunges!
Why do you love historical romance? I’d love you to share your thoughts 🙂

Alpha males… soldiers… Yummy! And you’re definitely right about the pirate. I doubt real-life pirates were or are nearly as glamorous. 😉
I’m with ya on #3 and #11! 🙂

I laughed out loud when reading number 11. That’s so me! If someone offered me to use a time machine and explore the past, my first question would be: “Does it have an en suite bathroom?” 🙂
