This story has been around awhile but this was my very first gay romance! I suspect some of my readers who have come along more recently have not read it unless they checked my extensive back list page at Amber Quill very thoroughly. For that reason, I thought I’d feature it today. See the next post for the blurb, cover and buy link info.
Several of the authors who were then writing for AQ’s Heat (hetero erotic romance) line had just gotten back from a Romantic Times Convention where we’d learned that m/m romance was really gaining readers so we were discussing the possibility of doing some. I had doubts about whether or not I could write a gay romance but within a few days I awakened with an idea so urgent that I scribbled the first scene down on my grocery list notepad while I ate breakfast one day! And I never composed by hand anymore!
Lo and behold, that story developed as Treading Dangerous Ground, was released, and became my best seller to that time at Amber Quill! I was surprised but followed up with the first few of my Canine Cupids series and eventually a second sci-fi military follow on tale called Fire on Ice that features some relatives of the first group of characters. Now some years later, I think I am best known for my LGBT romances, which at one time would have amazed me!
A free download in the winner’s choice of format is up for grabs today among comments about this or other military stories and/or your take on gay romance.
From my perspective, it’s been a very enlightening and educational experience, for as I got into the heads and hearts of my characters, I gained a lot more understanding of what it is like to be gay and come to a firm belief that love is love no matter who and where it strikes, that everyone deserves to find it and that there is no such thing as wrong or bad love so long as it is real and sincere. I’m pleased to see society is gradually coming to share this perspective. All huge social change takes time and belief systems change the slowest of all so many are not there yet and won’t be for awhile. You really cannot legislate beliefs and faith etc. but certain rights and protections can be given by law and that is for the best. Love is the One True Thing and may it ever prevail.
