Thirteen Reasons I Love Romance

I write romance, and I read romance. I enjoy all types, though historical romances are my favorite. Here are thirteen of my top reasons for loving romance novels (in reverse order):
13. Romances provide characters I can root for from beginning to end of the story.
12. Romance is like chocolate without the calories.
11. Romance novels are a wonderful escape from the reality of housework, car pools, and day jobs.
10. Romance heroines come in all shapes and sizes. They’re not all petite, buxom blondes, and they’re not all ravishing beauties.
9.  Writing and reading historical romances allows me to immerse myself in another time.
8.  Romance novels often feature the triumph of good over evil, a classic theme I adore.
7.  Romance heroes and heroines are strong characters with deep values or deep flaws…or both.
6.  I don’t have to read the end of the book first to know it’s going to be a happy ending. That’s one bit of predictability I like.
5.  Romance characters undergo character development throughout the course of the story. They aren’t static…the relationship helps them grow.
4.  Romances reinforce the value of mutual respect and trust in a love relationship.
3.  Romance heroines aren’t sitting around waiting to be rescued. Many times, they are actually the rescuers! More and more romance heroines are strong, kick-ass women.
2.  Romance heroes are hot!
1.  Did I mention the happily-ever-after?
