I ran into a high school friend the other day. We hadn't seen each other in years, and we did some quick catching up. Seeing my old friend made me think of summers past, and the movies that conjure thoughts of summer nights and trips to the beach. A good summer movie has that fun, relaxed spirit that summer.

Here are thirteen of my favorite summer movies:

1) Grease – one of my all-time favorite movies of summer. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John made the perfect summer couple.

2) Independence Day – who can resist a movie where aliens get their butts kicked on the Fourth of July?

3) Pirates of the Caribbean – I'm a sucker for Johnny Depp in pirate garb…can't help myself.

4) One Crazy Summer – love John Cusack!

5) Meatballs – I can't resist Bill Murray at his sarcastic best.

6) Caddyshack – more terrific Bill Murray hilarity…silly but a great summer movie laugh

7) National Lampoon's Vacation – I am married to a man who channels Clark Griswold, so this is a natrural choice.

8)  Jaws – Going to the beach has never been quite the same for me…still love it, but much more time in the sand. And night swims…save 'em for the pool.

9) What About Bob? – Another hilarious Bill Murray flick…are you detecting a pattern here?

10) Bridesmaids – not really a summer movie, but I will always assoicate it wit the summer I saw it with my friends – loved the bonding.

11)  Jurassic Park – summer vacation at Dinosaur Camp…not a great idea!

12) Friday the 13th – Not a feel good movie, but camp always makes me think of summer 🙂

13) Star Wars – do they have seasons in the Star Wars universe? Maybe yes, maybe no, but the movie came out during the summer, so it will  always have a place in my heart.
