Insta-Coffee Welcome. Today I’m talking with Karen Kay, and her books revolve around the American Indian culture. What an interesting theme. Tell us why you wanted to write about this.

Well, historically, the American Indians have pretty much had a bad rap. I can say this now having mounds of historical documents in my library of their own writings and/or stories they told to friends that they had personally been a part of, and those friends wrote those stories down. History in movies, in texts and other means of communication has been pretty much written by the victors and, until more recently, lies about them and their ideas of government, culture, freedom, the spiritual nature of man, the institution of marriage, of honor, of truth and the willingness to come to the aid of a friend has been hidden or simply not taught. And it is this culture which is unparalleled in many ways than any other society I have studied. Later, after I had started writing about the American Indians, I found out through a neighbor and a family tree (now lost) that I had Choctaw heritage that was hidden from me. This alone has given me a reason to try in my own humble way to write it the way I have found it to be.

How is your approach different?

I`m not sure my work is entirely different from others who write in this genre. The only thing I try to add is to make (though I write in fiction) many of the happenings in my books based on or inspired by real people who lived through some of the events I write about.

In order to write about the American Indian Culture, you have to be knowledgeable. Where do you do your research? J. Arlene Culiner

Insta-Coffee Tamela Miles is an amazing author of Romantic Paranormal Horror. Blending two genres has never been so exciting before. Check out her “Hell On Wheels” series. She’ll not be responsible for your sleepless nights because you won’t be able to put the stories down. Enjoy the rich and feisty characters who keep you enthralled. Don’t turn to the second page if you aren’t ready for a wild adventure. Thanks Tamela for such an amazing trio of stories. There are many more novels ahead.

How old were you when you first found your love of horror?

I stumbled across a Stephen King novel, I think it was “Christine”, around age 11 and was a confirmed horror stories fangirl for life.

When you began your writing career, did you find it hard to get published?

My first attempt at a paranormal romance was fantastic! ::laughing:: Or, so I thought until I submitted it to a boutique publisher’s editor. She gave me great feedback and sent me on my way back to my desktop PC. After bingeing several seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I was inspired to create a trilogy about my own demon hunter, Elle Connor, from my Hell On Heels stories. I received a publication offer from the Wild Rose Press within a few weeks of submitting that trilogy.

What is your absolute favorite horror movie or series?

My two favorite horror movies are The Exorcist and IT (Stephen King – both the older one and the newer reboot)

If you were in the movie and heard the scary music while going downstairs, what would you do, run or face the danger?

Depends on whether or not I’m amped up on chocolate and coffee, my two favorite avenues to caffeine. FrannyArmstrong-PNG

Wicked Ambition’s Special Price Is Ending—Are You In? https://bit.ly/45u45Ds

August 2025

The risk is real. The romance is hot. The deal ends Monday.
Hi Everyone

If you downloaded the bonus epilogue for Wicked Ambition, please double-check that you received the correct version—the one featuring Oz and Ayla. There was a mix-up, but it`s been fixed. If you got the wrong file, you`re welcome to re-download it. Just be sure to use the same email address you originally subscribed with, and you won’t get duplicate emails. I’m truly sorry for the hiccup—and grateful for your patience.

I’m sending this newsletter out early for three reasons. The first is the epilogue mix up that I mentioned above. The other two reasons involve a sale and early-bird pricing. There’s also a link to get a free ebook from another author down below. You can scroll past my chitchat if you’d rather get right to the news.

I’ve started a new reading challenge—well, new to me. It’s been around for a few years and kicked off in January, so I’m a little behind. I hoped the books already on my TBR would fit the prompts, but I ended up doing some library browsing to fill the gaps.

That’s how I stumbled across a Nora Roberts fantasy trilogy. I read book one to meet the prompt, but the ending had me rushing back for book two. I devoured it and immediately went to grab the final installment.

Except… my library didn’t have it.

Yep. They had books one and two of a trilogy—but not book three. I was so disappointed.

Thankfully, Georgia has a statewide library system. I was able to request the last book from another branch, but the wait time was estimated at five weeks—and patrons from that library could jump the queue.

Alison Chambers https://bit.ly/4oirL6j Hello Alison! Your books have a flavor of adventure. I love the covers too. They have a super romantic feeling. I wish you well with all of your projects.

Who, out of all your books would be your absolute favourite hero or heroine and why?

I would say the heroine of my latest book, “The Magician’s Daughter,” Kate Kavanaugh. Kate is a captain in the newly-formed Office of Strategic Services (OSS). In doing research for the book, I learned about the amazing contributions women made to that organization and to the World War II war effort. I decided to make the main character one of those women and chronicle her struggles and the challenging reasons behind why she decided to serve. “The Magician’s Daughter” is the first in a series of Kate Kavanaugh books and I hope to help readers become more aware of the many important roles that women played, risking their lives during World War II, acting as undercover agents, code-breakers, etc.

How long does it usually take to write a book?

Usually six months, but then it takes at least another six months to do the editing and fine-tuning.

If you could be one of your villains, who would it be?

I love to hate the villainess in “The Magician’s Daughter.” Her name is Ulrike Gast and she is a sneaky but sultry German agent. I enjoy writing about her and making readers love to hate her too. It’s fun!

Do you do a lot of research for your novels? Please give example.

I majored in political science and history and have a life-long interest in American history, particularly the World War II era. As mentioned above, I researched the role of women in the OSS, how the OSS came to be formed, when it was formed. I also research every facet of my writing. For example, since this book is about the US Army Air Force in England during World War II, I researched that, read the book “Twelve O’ Clock High,” watched the TV series of the ...

The latest Paladin League novel, Wicked Ambition, is available, and it’s packed with everything I love writing: high-stakes danger, a hero and heroine who work as a team, and who never expected to fall for each other…especially not while being hunted by mobsters.

Ayla Desmond plays by the rules—until her twin vanishes in a country on the verge of chaos. She rushes to the rescue, knowing she has the best chance of finding her sister before it’s too late.

Enter Oziah “Wizard” West: a covert Special Forces soldier with zero interest in commitment…except when Ayla crosses his path again. She’s the mystery woman who slipped out of his bed weeks earlier, the one he can’t get out of his head. Now she’s in danger and absolutely not interested in getting involved with a man she believes to be a mercenary.

What follows? A deadly game of survival, tangled loyalties, and a love that defies every expectation.

If you’re in the mood for:

🔥 A protective hero with a complicated past

💔 A fish-out-of-water heroine who refuses to back down

🚁 Action, betrayal, and a pregnancy twist that changes everything

💕 A second chance romance with a guaranteed happy ending

Wicked Ambition is available now! Dive in today and let Ayla and Oz carry you straight into a high-stakes love story.
