Welcome, today we are talking with Stephanie R. Caffrey! I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy writing schedule to answer a few questions. First, let’s delve into who you are. Some of the questions may be untraditional but you’d be surprised at what readers connect to, and sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can.
Can you share a little something about yourself that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?
I was born and raised in Southern California before moving to Iowa for college. I met my husband my first semester and decided to stay here.
How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was about nine years old, but seriously writing original fiction since about 2010.
What have you found most challenging about it?
Mostly finding the time to actually sit down and write.
What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?
Writing is a lot of fun. I love sitting down at my computer and allowing characters and worlds just spill from my brain into the document. Seeing these characters come to life is amazing.
Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule or do you have to be in the mood?
I wish I could be a more disciplined writer, but because I’m a mom of two kids and I work full time, I mostly write whenever I can find time. Sometimes it’s during a break at work, or it’s at night after the kids go to bed. Fifteen minutes here, twenty minutes there. Whatever time I can get, I use it.
Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?
I mostly wrote because it was a fun hobby. I wrote a lot of fanfiction, and it was a lot of fun, and I loved getting reviews from other people, so I decided to move that hobby into original fiction.
What inspires you?
My friends and family. I use a lot of them in the characters in my books.
Let’s move on and give readers some insight into your personal life.
What are your pet peeves?
People who sit outside their house and rev their car or motorcycle engines.
Who is your hero?
Elizabeth Warren
Give us one thing on your bucket list.
Camping through Alaska
What is your favorite hot drink (coffee, tea, etc.)?
Tea. Specifically Barry’s Irish Breakfast Tea with two sugars and a splash of milk.
What would readers find surprising about you?
That I’m a pretty quiet person.
If you could go to heaven, who would you visit?
My maternal grandparents.
Just for fun. What is your least favorite:
- Hero type – Alpha Male
- Body part – Toes
- Genre – Literary Fiction
Now that our readers know who Stephanie R. Caffrey is let’s get down to the business of your book, Be My Little Baby.
Please tell us a little bit about Be My Little Baby.
This is book two of my London Detective Agency series. It can be read as a stand alone though. It follows James Moore, a private detective in London. When Tessa Lopez, a local bake shop owner, comes into his office with a case of stalking, he decides to do everything in his power to catch her tormentor. However, the mutual attraction between them may cause problems. You see, James doesn’t date clients, and it seems the more time the two of them spend together not only causes him to doubt whether he can hold to those morals, it’s causing her stalker to escalate. Can the two of them fight off their attraction to one another? Or will it be their undoing?
What was your hardest challenge writing this book?
Worrying about whether or not it would be as good as the first. I think writers call it the curse of the second book. The whole time I had to push the worry out of my mind.
What kind of research did you have to do?
I did a lot of research into British Baking, and London in general. I have a really good BritPicker who read both books and would go through and fix things I would get wrong. But I still had to do some initial leg work to make sure most of what I put in the draft was accurate.
What in your opinion makes good chemistry between your leading characters?
They have similar humor. Tess and James can tease each other and flirt with ease. You can feel their attraction to one another with each interaction as they use humor to diffuse every situation.
Any other works in progress?
I just finished a first draft of the first book of my next series. This new series follows a behavioral analysis unit of the FBI as they travel around the US and catch serial killers…and fall in love. I’m really excited about this new series, and can’t wait for people to read it!
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Get the words on the page, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. You’re better than your brain tells you you are.
Final words?
I just want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this, and to read my books. I appreciate you.
