Some like it hot (not a poll but curious)

On hot, I’m talking both books and weather LOL. It says 102 right now here at my house in Alamogordo, New Mexico! That is more like Phoenix and Gila Bend and Yuma (AZ) temperatures. Early to be quite that hot here and summer rain/monsoon season is f-a-r away! However, I will not whine very loud because I would much rather deal with hot than cold. The cooler is roaring along and since it is dry it works pretty well–evaporative coolers are a tradition in the southwest, especially older homes like mine. Shoot, I can remember when we did not even have that in central Arizona back in the dark ages. The good old days? Not so much.

As to the books though, while I really don’t like sex+sex+sex with a teeny bit of plot and stuff, I can’t say a good story can possibly be too hot for me.  Sometimes though I do think less can be more and if I have to use a smidge of imagination, I can get into the story even more. What do you all think?  I know that even the category romances sold in every grocery store and Walmart are hotter now than books that were almost banned as too risque back in the middle of last century. I mean my Mom almost had kittens when I read Forever Amber at about sixteen! Other than that the heroine was a courtesan and had lots of lovers, there was nothing explicit at all! Times have changed for sure.

So what do you all think? Can a book be too hot, too explicit, too blatantly and vividly detailed in the sex stuff? Or not? What if your teen or pre-teen daughter finds one of your favorites–do you get upset? Do you have parental controls on the computers and other devices where you can? I am just wondering. Yeah, I  know I am kind of old fashioned and lots of this stuff I did not have to deal with when my kids were at home so I wonder now about it.  There was Playboy and Playgirl and a few magazines so salacious they were out of sight at the newsstand when I was young and the confessions mags which we thought were pretty racy but it’s certainly gone about 200 degrees past that.

In one of my pseudonyms I write very explicit books, both straight and gay,  and I am comfortable with that, comfortable enough that most of my friends and family know about it and can read them if they want to! I don’t even mind if my late teen aged granddaughters read them; they probably know it all by now anyway! Although  they might be shocked to find that grandma does too LOL.

Just something not exactly UF related to keep us talking here on a sleepy kind of afternoon.
