Shelley grew up in Houston, Texas, went to Colorado for college, and after living in Arizona, Dallas, and Denver, moved to southern Ohio about ten years ago.
Shelley has always thought of herself as a very hard worker, but not “great’ at anything. She obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree but never considered herself a gifted student. She took years of ballet and dance, but never was anywhere near the star of the recital. She loves to cook, but is certainly not close to being gourmet, and finally she loves to write books, but has certainly read far better authors. In the end, she considers the most wonderful truth to be that she is exceptional in God’s eyes, which makes her faith her most cherished possession.
She started writing about the Amish because their way of life appealed to her. She wanted to write stories about regular, likeable people in extraordinary situations-and who just happened to be Amish.
Fans of Ms. Shepard Gray will enjoy a return to this little Amish community and all of the familiar faces from earlier books. Readers will be enchanted by the boisterous and sometimes outrageous antics of the Rhodes children. The lively brood of six provides a heartwarming backdrop for Martin and Ruth’s budding romance. This is truly a quick and worthwhile read.
