Resolve to be Decadent with Coffee Time Romance

Love in the Young Adult World

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I thought today I would blog a little bit about love and specifically about love in the Young Adult World.

Why you might ask? Well, because I have a book releasing from Decadent Publishing called Initiation.  Before I sat down to write this book that plagued my imagination for years, I read a lot of YA books.

There really is a lot of variety out there about how much love is appropriate in the Young Adult world.  While a lot of people read Twilight, and know for example how that worked out, the answer to the question of how much is too much seems to be left up to each individual author.

Some people swear that while love is fine, it is completely inappropriate for the characters to engage in any kind of sexual activity.  I don’t actually agree with this.  If you’re writing a book you have to do what the characters tell you to do.  If the characters are having sex then that needs to be presented.  I am not suggesting that a graphic, erotic sex scene needs to take place, indeed in my case I would be horrified to write that for a young audience, as much as I love to write them in my adult books. But a behind the door sex scene? If the book calls for it, then it needs to happen.

Most every YA book I read has a romantic element. Let’s face it, teenagers are interested in this subject””as are their adult counterparts.

I would say that how far that love goes””how descriptive it becomes””well there’s no set answer to that question.  Not for me at least!

Happy Valentines Day!
