This book is a rerelease of a book that was very popular about ten years ago. The author revised it since she realized some things had changed since she had first written the book and that the changes probably would help a lot of the people who were helped by her first book. With a dry, sometimes sardonic sense of humor she tells us of her journey to defeat depression and back problems while becoming closer to God.
Prayer Walk was an idea that she came up with to exercise her back. She had to do it early in the morning since she is a teacher and an author while being involved in the church and the wife of a farmer. She is also a mother so mornings were pretty much the only time available to her. Waking up at the crack of dawn—sometimes before—she walked, even though she was far from a morning person. The first few times were hard—she didn’t even change out of her pjs the first few times, just tossing clothes on top of them so that she didn’t change her mind before walking.
While walking, the author prays. She started off slow with the walking and the praying. Both grew over time…eventually she prayed for the families in the homes she passed and the things that bothered her. Sometimes her prayers weren’t answered and sometimes she didn’t find peace. Other times she encountered dangers, like animals or criminals.
On her journey, she found an answer to her depression. She found a closer relationship to God and peace with herself. She found the better health that she was seeking and learned to say no, which is one of the hardest things for anyone to learn. Even for those who aren’t terribly religious, this is a wonderful book of personal triumph and finding peace within yourself.
