“Pleasure Satellite” is my second epubbed story released and my debut story from Ellora’s Cave.
As I stated in an earlier post, I usually start my stories with the characters. In the case of “Pleasure Satellite” it was the heroine that came to me first. In the way I usually do, random thoughts were running through my head, and I just thought that a female gladiator would be the coolest thing.
However, I didn’t see her in ancient Rome, so where would I put a female gladiator? Hey, what about outer space? That works!
And if I was setting a story in outer space, well that meant the hero didn’t have to be human, right? So if I could make the sexiest space alien, how would I describe him? Poof, Nevan – the hero of “Pleasure Satellite” – was created.
So I started writing a story with these two characters in mind.
I’m a pantser, not a plotter, so as I sat down and started writing, I didn’t realize in the beginning that the story would end up being quite as naughty as the final product ended up being (tee-hee). These two characters just sparked off each other though, and I had to accept that I was a saucy authoress and let this story be as sexy as it wanted to be.
When it came to submitting, I knew immediately I wanted it to go to Ellora’s Cave. I don’t think any epublishing house does erotic romance better than EC, and they were a pub that I have always wanted to be an author at. So I submitted the synopsis and first three chapters to EC and nowhere else, with fingers and toes crossed.
Four months later I received an email from Grace Bradley, an editor at EC, asking for the full. One month after that, Grace emailed me with a revise and resubmit. One month after that, I was signing my first contract with Ellora’s Cave, and now have the pleasure of calling the amazing Grace Bradley my editor.
I couldn’t be happier with how it has turned out. My editing experience was fantastic, I ended up with a stunning cover (which I can’t figure out how to upload, sorry!) and all in all, I have been really blessed with my publishing journey thus far.
As with “Loving a Fairy Godmother” I’m going to be giving away copies of “Pleasure Satellite”. So get to commenting (on anything your little heart desires) and good luck!
BLURB:
Nevan’s life is nothing but duty and honor. The eldest son of a prestigious House, he has a life mapped out ahead of him, including mating a woman for whom he feels nothing but brotherly affection. But then one night he discovers a woman who makes his blood boil and his body hard.
Seena has known nothing but blood and pain in her life. A fighter for the BloodRing, she is nothing more than spectacle, her life and death meaningless except as entertainment for the masses. Then one night a male comes to her in secret with a bargain the likes of which she has never been confronted with. The ultimate fight, which will lead her either to freedom”¦or to his bed.
Nevan will allow nothing to stop him from possessing the human. On the Pleasure Satellite anything is permissible, and to the strongest goes everything.
Ooh, I love the sounds of this! I’m definitely a fan of scifi romance, and I love the sounds of your heroine, Seena! Congratulations, too, on your EC debut! They were the first erotic romance I read 🙂 What an exciting sale for you!
Are you mostly writing stand-alones right now (you mentioned being a pantser, and maybe just going with the inspiration that strikes?)? Would you consider a series? (I’m just a sucker for those, and love connected stories.)
Sounds like it was meant to be. 🙂
Hey Fedora,
It has been a great ride for me. I’ve been nothing but blessed.
I’ll talk about this a little more in an upcoming blog, but my short stories are whatever strikes my fancy, so I usually write without any thought of a series. Partly because I am writing a paranormal romance novel with the expectation it will be a series, so when I’m not writing that, it’s just so nice to let my mind wander and not put any restrictions on what sounds good to write.
However, I love series as well, and I know most readers enjoy them, so I do think I’ll need to consider that in the future.
Thanks Dawn!
I do admit, I am a believer in the if it’s meant to be school of thought, and in this case, I think that happened in spades. No newbie should be as lucky as me 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
This sounds like a lot of fun! Best of luck with your first EC release. I know they’ve treated me well!
This story sounds awesome, Danielle! Congrats on your two releases. Very exciting!
Wow! What a hot book! Congratulations on getting the exact publisher you dreamed of. That is really cool.
Patti
Hey Elaine,
Thanks so much. I have nothing but love to say about my EC experience 🙂
Glad you could stop by!
Thanks Kinley! 🙂 Glad you could stop by!
Hi Patricia,
It’s really exciting when it works out just as you hoped it would. Not that it will happen every time like that, but I do appreciate when it does 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
That totally makes sense, that writing these shorter stories is like a palate cleanser for your brain 😉 It’s fun for your readers, too, to get a taste of all the different kinds of characters, settings, and ideas that you create! Can you share a little about your novel, or is it still too much a work in progress?
BTW, it must be hard to find time to read for yourself, but what do you like to read when you do? Any keepers in terms of books or authors for you?
Oooh, a sexy space alien. 🙂 Why am I not surprised. LOL.
Hey Jacquie!
Well, is there any other type in a sci-fi romance? 😉
Thanks for stopping by!
I loved it. Great read. 2 for 2 Danielle.
