Welcome, today we are talking with Kathie and Pat AKA K.M. Daughters! I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy writing schedule to answer a few questions. First, let’s delve into who you are. Some of the questions may be untraditional but you’d be surprised at what readers connect to, and sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can.
Can you share a little something about Kathie and Pat that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?
We originally started writing romance novels individually. Kathie had an idea for a contemporary romance. She had a title and a basic premise that we brainstormed while together in our hometown for a sister visit. We had just joined RWA and shortly thereafter, we attended our first conference where we continued to play around with Kathie’s title. Before the conference ended, we had created a scene map. Kathie suggested we team write the novel instead of going it alone. That resulted in Reunion For The First Time, published by The Wild Rose Press.
How did you come up with the author name of K.M. Daughters?
Kathie suggested the pen name to honor the memory of our parents: Kay and Mickey Lynch. We’re “K.”ay and “M.”ickey’s Daughters.
How long have you been writing?
We became a team in 2007 and published our first two novels in 2008.
What have you found most challenging about writing?
Promoting our books to reach Readers.
What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?
What a great question! It’s fun all the time, and yes, at times emotional. If we don’t cry while doing a read through of one of our books, we haven’t succeeded!
Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule or do you have to be in the mood? Since there’s two of you do you take turns writing?
We take turns writing, alternating chapters. Pat keeps the master manuscript and homogenizes the text to create K.M. Daughter’s distinctive voice.
Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?
We went into writing hopeful that we’d fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming published authors.
Let’s move on and give readers some insight into your personal lives.
What are your pet peeves?
Line cutters and sidewalk “owners”.
Who is your hero?
Our dad.
What would readers find surprising about you?
We never fight with each other…as adults…
If you could go to heaven, who would you visit?
Kay and Mickey Lynch are first on our list. We’d also like to say hello to Betty White and Alex Trebec.
Now that our readers know who Kathie and Pat are let’s get down to the business of your trilogy, Sisters of the Legend. Please tell us a little bit about:
Bewitching Breeze
Breeze Layton and her sisters are the newest generation of identical female triplets in her family who can shapeshift and sense the future. Despite her supernormal gifts, she had no premonition that Jackson Tremonti and his daughter, Gabriella, were her destiny when they checked into her family’s Inn Of The Three Butterflies. Jack is instantly attracted to Bree, increasingly bewitched by the woman and the seashore setting where his troubles melt away. When an FBI Agent with whom Bree had a romantic history involves her in a drug smuggling operation, Jack’s daughter is put in danger. Will Bree risk losing Jack by revealing her fantastical abilities in order to save Gabriella?
Only One Summer
Summer Layton’s prophetic dreams tell her that a friend from her past, Vinnie Carlucci, is in trouble. Soon she learns that the FBI has suspended him from duty, after he is framed for a crime he swears he did not commit. Being a high-powered, no-nonsense defense attorney, Summer takes Vinnie on as a client, but damning evidence against him continues to mount.
When unexpected sparks fly, Summer and Vinnie find themselves entangled in more than a fight to get his job back. If Summer fails to prove his innocence, she’ll lose the man she loves…and he’ll lose his freedom.
Skye Without Limits
Finding love is the last thing Skye Layton expects when she leaves her beachfront haven bound for a wedding in California. Senator Gabe Hartley impetuously steals a kiss at their first meeting and then increasingly steals her heart. Skye can’t surrender completely to Gabe’s charm while safeguarding her role as the most powerful Sister of the Legend in her generation. Gabe’s love for Skye is patient and steadfast despite her mysterious evasiveness. Skye yearns for a future with Gabe; but how can she trust a public figure with the secrets of the ancient Legend? Will their love survive when Skye reveals her fantastical power without limits?
What was your hardest challenge writing this series?
Fantasy romance is a new genre for us, so we spent a lot of time in the formulative discussions wrestling with the triplets’ unique, magical powers. We wanted the unbelievable to seem believable.
What in your opinion makes good chemistry between your leading characters?
First comes the indescribable spark of sexual attraction followed by honesty, the freedom to be their true selves with each other and trust. In our opinion this makes for ever after kind of chemistry.
Any other works in progress?
Yes! We’re so excited about our WIP. It’s a stand-alone romantic suspense sequel to The Sullivan Boys Series.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Keep having fun writing.
Final words?
Heartfelt thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read a K.M. Daughter’s book. You’re our reason why.
