Hello everyone!! I’m Sarah Cass.
I’m really excited to join this edition of Book Brew! I’ve had a weakness for westerns and the cowboy for many years. I think it started with my love of Little House (the books, not the TV show), and as I grew up, got bolstered more by Dr. Quinn. Now in my adult years I’m a sucker for Deadwood and Hell on Wheels – and have been known to hone in on the TV whent he hubs watches Wyatt Earp.
As you can tell, I love the historical westerns. It was dirty, and not anything as vanilla as Dr. Quinn, and not all together nice, but I still love it.
It’s something about the simpler time for me. When the Law of the Land ruled in a world where many states hadn’t even been formed. There’s a romanticism to it, even though it was a hard (and often very harsh) life.
It wasn’t until Dr. Quinn that my interest in the other aspect of Westerns developed. Sure, I loved the cowboys, and the brothel owners, and the pioneers…but I had only given a passing thought to the Indians. I credit DQMW for bringing my fascination for the world (and plight) of the Native Americans to the forefront of my conscious again…after a brief flirtation thank to the book Last of the Mohicans, DQMW told even more stories.
It’s thanks to those two inspirations in my life that I created Masked Hearts.
From Cowboys to Indians – there is always a story to tell about the old west…and that’s why I love living there so often in my stories.
What about you? Do you prefer the old west? Or do you prefer the modern westerns and the rodeo cowboys?

BIO:
Sarah Cass’s world is regularly turned upside down by her three special-needs kids and loving mate, so she breaks genre barriers, dabbling in horror, straight fiction, and urban fantasy. An ADD tendency leaves her with a variety of interests that include singing, dancing, crafting, cooking, and being a photographer. She fights through the struggles of the day, knowing the battles are her crucible and though she may emerge scarred, she’s also stronger. Now officially multi-published, she’s still working on bringing new stories to fill out her year and your reading lists. While busy creating worlds and characters as real to her as her own family, she leads an active online life with her blog, Redefining Perfect, which gives a real and sometimes raw glimpses into her life and art.
