AK Nevermore

Welcome, today we are talking with AK Nevermore! I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy writing schedule to answer a few questions. First, let’s delve into who you are. Some of the questions may be untraditional but you’d be surprised at what readers connect to, and sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can.

Can you share a little something about AK Nevermore that’s not mentioned in your bio?

I own more than one pink hard hat and my favorite color is green. The drab kind of green, not the cheery, life-affirming, verdant green.

How long have you been writing?

Seriously for about seven years, but in general as long as I can remember.

What genres do you write?

Romance and Romantasy that all fall under paranormal, urban fantasy, science fiction… basically smutty SFF.

What have you found most challenging about it?

Getting your name out there. There are so many amazing authors, it can be a real struggle to get your book noticed in the crowd.

What does writing do for you? Is it fun, cathartic, do you get emotional?

I get sucked in and disappear. My husband says I get a certain expression when I’m “In my head.” I don’t get emotional about things in general, but I do snicker a lot as I write.

Describe what your writing routine looks like. Are you disciplined with a strict schedule or do you have to be in the mood?

I’m up around 5am and on my computer until around 10, then back at it throughout the day, everyday. So yeah, I guess I have a strict schedule, but it doesn’t feel like that. It’s just what I do.

Did you go into writing thinking that it would be a hobby or a job?

I went into it thinking it was what I wanted to do and figured I would see what happened. I’m having too much fun to think of it as a job, but it’s way more consuming than a hobby. I dunno what I’d call it at this point other than happening.

Let’s move on and give readers some insight into your personal life.

What are your pet peeves?

White paint on furniture/woodwork. It literally makes my eye twitch.

Who is your hero?

I don’t think I have one. I mean, there are definitely a lot of people I admire, but no one I can point to and say, “That’s who I want to be when I grow up.” Maybe because I don’t plan on growing up?

Give us one thing on your bucket list.

To shower before 10am? I dunno, I’d love to say it’s something like to swim in a fiord or whatever, but frankly, that seems like a ton of work. Ah! Seriously, I don’t set goals for the most part, just do the thing that needs doing next. My husband is the planner. He’s always finding cool things for us to do I never would have thought of.

What would readers find surprising about you?

I have absolutely no idea. I’m pretty weird. Like, I’ve been introduced with the caveat “You get used to her,” so…

If you could go to heaven, who would you visit?

I love the “if” here. You know, I have no clue. I’d probably just wander around and check it out. Raid the fridge, that kind of thing.

Now that our readers know who AK Nevermore let’s get down to the business of your new series, The Maw of Mayhem MC Series.

The Maw of Mayhem MC Series is a dark fantasy erotica series, right?

Yeah, it’s definitely in the dark paranormal subgenera, full of shifter, witches, and vampire.

Please tell us a little bit about, The Maw of Mayhem.

Maw of Mayhem is a paranormal shifter series based around the VP of the Maw of Mayhem MC, Grimdarke James, and his fated mate Kit. Neither one of them is thrilled to find that out, but their inner cats are, and it makes for some really interesting storytelling when everything goes to hell in a hand basket.

How many books do you plan in the series?

Right now, I’m currently under contract for a total of four, and I just finished the second of those. There is also a prequel available to series. I can definitely see it branching off after I tie up Kit and Grim’s arc. Especially after writing the last one. Deuce and Brick need their own stories.

What kind of research did you have to do?

Oh my God, my search history is… yeah. Someone needs to delete that if I die. It goes between deep dives into feline characteristics all the way to what is a piercing called when it’s in a very specific position. Make sure no one’s reading over your shoulder for that one!

What in your opinion makes good chemistry between your leading characters?

There needs to be an attraction and some kind of innate tension. It can’t be easy for one reason or another. One of them (or both) has to be outside of their comfort zone. That doesn’t necessarily mean what’s going on is taboo n the bedroom, though that’s always a plus… forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, all of that sparks.

Any other works in progress?

Oh yeah. I’ve got another two books planned for the Maw of Mayhem, a Sci-fi Dark Romantasy series debuting this summer, and the second book in my Urban Fantasy series is coming at the end of this year. I think there’s a PNR Jane Austen retelling  anthology somewhere in there too.

Any advice for aspiring authors?

Write and then put it out there. You never know who’s going to read your work and fall in love with it. Also keep in mind there are no experts, just people who have been at this longer than you. Art is subjective. Stay true to your vision.

Final words?

Nope.
