First, what are blurbs? They’re summaries of a book or film, intended to persuade / encourage readers to pick up the book. A good blurb can make or break your story.
A tagline is a one or two sentence hook for the story.
A synopsis is the full story setup, spoilers and ending included. These are used for pitches and queries, not readers.
For writers, you might use the synopsis for landing an agent or contract, and the tagline as part of a pitch. It might even go on your cover and in ads.
But the blurb will be used everywhere. Repeatedly.
The act of writing a blurb creates its own drama, but after you finish it, what do you do with the thing?
Writers use blurbs and taglines in their signatures, tweets, Facebook pages, you name it. If you get a chance to guest on someone’s blog or take out an ad, you’ll need the blurb and more.
Here’s a handy way to keep pertinent info on hand and easy-to-find.
I’ve included an attachment for you to download and use with your own books. I use the same blurb setup for each of my books. It includes everything from buy links, full titles, subtitles, hashtags, categories, tropes, and more.
The annotated version is so you can see reasons why things are included. You’ll likely find dozens of things you want to add.
Download these documents in pdf version or MS Word and plug in the info.
