Me again! 🙂 In this post I’m going to be chatting a little about how a visit to Paris inspired me to write a paranormal erotic romance.
I visited France last year and in our itinerary was a day in Paris. Of course I knew it by reputation in terms of the romance, the beauty and so on. But, not being much of a city girl, I still didn’t get massively excited. That soon changed when I got off the train and hit the pavements. Once of the first things we spotted was the Eiffel Tower, an iconic landmark in itself. We got into the horrendous queue and headed up. Despite the crowds, I elbowed my way to a viewing platform right at the very top and gazed out onto the city. I was completely mesmerised.
One of the first things that really caught my eye was the Sacre-Coeur. Sitting there, perched on its hill at quite a distance from my viewing platform, it shone in the sunlight. That was my first glimpse at the building that would come to feature in my story. Later, after whizzing around the city trying to cram in all the highlights, we made a visit to the Sacred Heart itself. My fascination didn’t wane any. If anything, it increased. Exploring the interior of the main church, looking at the architecture and so on… it was all firing my imagination. All too soon, the visit was over and we’d run out of time to explore the roof and the crypt.
However, not to be deterred I used my super persuasion skills to organise another trip into the city. There was still much to see, and I wanted to see the Sacre-Coeur again. So, after another madcap rush around the city, checking more landmarks off the list, my other half and I then climbed what felt like a bazillion steps and were on the roof of the building. It totally felt like we shouldn’t be there, wandering over the roof of a church, slipping through narrow doors and up tiny corridors. Regardless, it was doing wonders for my imagination.
After leaving Paris for the second time, lots of things swam around in my head. I’d explored the surrounding area of the Sacre-Coeur, Montmartre and the Pigalle too, and there was a story there, I just knew it.
Sure enough, when I returned home and back to life as normal, I put pen to paper and the story flowed. I pulled heavily from what I’d seen of the Sacred Heart and its surroundings and also the atmosphere. I added a touch of the paranormal, and BITE WITH HEIGHT was born. Even now, many, many months down the line and it’s still one of my favourite stories. And, excitingly, there’s a sequel just bursting to be written…
Here’s the blurb to BITE WITH HEIGHT:
When Meg spots a young woman alone in the Pigalle district of Paris at night, she’s intrigued. She has to know her story and find out why she looks so sad and alone. After introducing herself, Meg realizes that she and Grace have a lot in common. But when they decide to go and grab a drink together, they discover a mutual love that could bond them forever.
