Half way through our party

And it looks like everyone is having a great time!!

Does anyone take part in some of the steam punk festivals and such, similar to the Society of Creative Anachronism with their Ren Faires etc? If so share with us please!

I have to admit the idea of playing dress up is really appealing. I have a good friend who was a SCA member as a Viking warrior and is now into Steam Punk with a role or avatar as an elder brother of the Wizard of Oz who is the real smarts in the family LOL. I dreamed up a character for myself to be a tag along of sorts but haven’t actually gone to any of the events yet. But when I do I will be:

Alana Deirdre O’Grady Quatrefoil, an  Irish adventuress who married a second son of minor nobility. He was an explorer and died on a trek in the Hindu Kush leaving her the substantial fortune he had inherited from his maternal grandfather who favored him over his elder brother who had the title. She now pursues her own explorations and as a widow of independent means can essentially do what she chooses as she does not care about scandal or public opinion. She has a companion, ostensibly her maid but actually a slightly younger cousin who is not nearly as bold, and a couple of gentlemen friends but will not be tied down to another marriage.

She is about 40, red-headed, green eyed, slightly voluptuous figure but also very athletic and energetic. Her favorite attire is divided riding skirts worn with a Spanish style short bolero jacket, white shirtwaist, a wide-brimmed hat and cavalry style boots. She carries a pistol openly when out in the wilds and always has a hidden derringer regardless of where she is and a skein du in her boot or garter. Any man who thinks she might be an easy mark will soon learn otherwise for as an urchin in Dublin she learned street smarts and plenty of dirty tricks. She occasionally smokes small cigars and enjoys a nip of the mountain dew at times but never overindulges to the point of being defenseless. She has considerable skill in cards but never takes advantage of anyone who cannot afford to lose.

An excellent horsewoman and trainer of dogs, she has a soft spot for animals, soiled doves, orphan or mistreated children and struggling or downtrodden folk, especially women and directs a number of charitable efforts behind the scenes. In fact she applies a substantial amount of her income to such causes.

What do you think? Should I maybe write a picaresque adventure tale for her? By the way my lady’s name is a slight play on Alan Quartermain of Haggard’s books King Soloman’s Mines, She etc. And Quatrefoil would be a four leafed clover or shamrock.
