Lillian Santini is a single mother of adult twins and owns her own business, a hair salon called Lillian’s Lovelies on Drake Island. She ended up on the island by taking the wrong ferry back when she was pregnant and on the way to a job interview and ended up staying and building a life. She had been involved with an older married man who would not leave his wife when he found out Lil was pregnant. Her son has moved off the island and is an electrician but her daughter stayed and is considering becoming a teacher. One of Lil’s friends, Emmy, is getting married to her long time love, Blake, so Lillian has some busy days ahead of her doing hair and make-up for the wedding party. She is also planning to make an offer on the building her salon is in that also has two apartments on the upper floors.

Trey Jeffries went to college on Drake Island and that is where he met Blake. He came back to the island for the wedding but after meeting Lil he decides he may never leave again. He works hard to overcome her issues with their age gap of eight years and then unknowingly buys her building out from under her after deciding he wants a permanent base on the island. He has to convince her he is not just trying to get in her pants but actually wants to build something with her. He owns his own business as a social media marketer and is already a millionaire so when he bought her building sight unseen, she starts to take him more seriously and decides to give him a chance.

Lil has not had a serious long term relationship since her children’s father and at first thinks Trey is just a playboy with too much money and good looks. A gorgeous girl shows up to see him and it immediately puts her back up until she finds out the girl likes girls and she and Trey are just friends. There is another female from his past sending him text messages and to convince her that is over he deletes her contact information from his phone. After she gets over him buying her building, she decides to buy a house instead and Trey helps her paint and renovate and they both are falling and looking at the future. Then the other shoe drops and throws them both for a loop.

I felt like this was a well told story. The attraction between Lil and Trey is evident immediately. The other characters are interesting and make you want to go get the other two books, and hopefully more are coming. There is a mystery that is mentioned in this book but not resolved so I have to decide if I want to back up and read the first book first or go straight to the third so I can find out if who I think is a bad guy is actually a bad guy, or if there is some other resolution to the mystery.
